Mokou was an alright character when I first learned about her, but she extremely rapidly grew on me when I read about her backstory. A legitimate redeemed villain who seems genuinely compelled to turn over a new leaf, and self-punishes for her sins in a non-dramaqueen fashion.

I just want to give her a hug and a nice meal.

Wriggle is one of the few characters in the Touhou series to wear pants. Along with her somewhat forceful way of speaking, she is depicted as a tomboy. Keep in mind that Gensokyo is similar to feudal Japan in certain ways, so pants are hard to come by. Wriggle's pants are either made by a skilled tailor or imported from the Outside World, and are presumably more expensive than skirts.

To add on to this, her surname "Nightbug" is not a family name, it's the name of a species, given to her family by the creator ZUN. Names such as Wriggle's are names of gaijins. Taking the legend of the Firefly into consideration, Wriggle is the supposed daughter of aristocrat who turns into an insect in her dream.

Getting back to the main point, Wriggle's pants are a symbol of high status, so it makes sense that she would wear them consistently.

Considering how her life has boiled down to avenging her family's honour since many thousand years before and continually failing to do so as Kaguya is also immortal, Mokou must be pretty depressive and cynical after all this time. While she may or may not have had relationships in the past, it is inevitable that she will outlive whatever human kin she has and bear that loss forever. Sitting in a labyrinth forest and plotting to kill your immortal enemy for good is a better alternative than settling down for a family when you can't ever die. Even her best friend Keine will leave her behind in the mortal realm one day and she will never die even if Gensokyo were to collapse.
