Question: Are there any of you that is actually in for the music?

I know it's not the point, but I find it amazing that a huge, multinational, far-reaching organization that is AKB can release something like Sayonara Crawl or Eien Pressure and expect people to buy them (which people did, by the millions!). Surely AKS can cherry-pick the best producers and composers to make their songs? Surely someone like Yasusu can just snort his nose, and composers/producers all over the nation will come running, begging to have a chance?

I admit that AKB have always marketed themselves as such - we're not the best singers, we're not the best dancers, we have simple choreos, we're not that talented, some of us can't even be called attractive - but fuck it we're THE AKB48. But surely even the most ardent of fans can't call most of the songs as mediocre at best?

Yes, it's music. Yes, by its very nature it is subjective. Personally, I do find some of their songs decent - Flying Get (lovely hook, great chorus, Assan at her best), UZA (a bit long and overdone, but entertaining) or Ponytail no Shushu. And of course Heavy Rotation, which is just the perfect pop song. But, start comparing AKB to those Korean idol groups and it's just embarassing how big the gap is. Or, for instance, BABYMETAL. A BLOODY SUB-UNIT of a little-known idol group, but my word, the instrumentation, the chord progression, heck the SINGING, everything about them are awesome. If they can do it, why not AKB?

I am by no means a true wota. At best, I can only call myself a casual fan. I have only listened to the singles and some of the couplings. I just think that if they REALLY go for it with their music, their urm, art, they will be a true worldwide success. I mean, they even pulled in a rambling idiot like me without doing much, didn't they?

I think this is the main issue. The songs are made to appeal to a wide audience, so there are bound to be some or in your case a lot of songs where it simply doesn't click. You even stated it indirectly yourself. Babymetal is a sub-unit, the heavy music club of the school-themed Sakura Gakuin, focusing on that alone. A fan of Babymetal may not find Sleepiece or Mini Party songs enjoyable. When 100% of what a group produces is a specific niche you enjoy, the other group where only 20% tickles your fancy is going to look worse in comparison.

Now that she has become center, everytime she winks it is because of her fans saying, "Hey, I still love you all please do not give up on me."

I think AKB fans in general are way too lenient. They could just release Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as the next single and the fans would still buy two million of them. There is this feeling of complacency - we're at the top now; whatever shit we do the fans will lap it up. I just don't feel they are ambitious enough to REALLY be as successful as they could be.

Which they haven't really done since Heavy Rotation. Take for instance, Utada Hikaru or even Hamasaki Ayumi. They have those in mind but you'll be hard-pressed to say their music as simplistic, lazy, and devoid of creativity. Interestingly Sugar Rush, which was produced by a gaijin, is actually tolerable. Yes it's simple, but fuck me if it's not catchy.

However I do find some of NMB's songs enjoyable. Stuff like HA!, Hoshizora no Caravan, Kitagawa Kenji and Kamonegix are at least a bit different.

The 48 group did a song shuffle performance in the Rinji Soukai - Kuro Shiro Tsuke yo ja nai ka 4 day concert at Budoukan.

Probably Takahashi Juri. She's close to Kawaei, Yui, NMB and the rest of Team A. She works closely with the newer gens like KojiMako, Okada Nana and Owada Nana from the 15th gen. So I just got done watching through the Mujack NMB special episode for this month, and got to know more about Milky.

Looks like she's the same character type as Ritsuko from Idolm@ster (they're both idols that want to do more producing instead). The only difference is that Milky actually looks cute with pigtails and glasses while Ritsuko doesn't.
