My brother loved the Korean shows (Infinity Challenge/Running Man) that takes about an hour, but when I recommend the batsu games and how they take multiple hours, he balked out. I don't think Batsu is a good choice to start.

The single best annual Batsu was the one in high school (2005, I think). Not necessarily because of the humour itself, but rather for the punishment being a hit with a shinai. It looked painful and their faces confirmed it to actually hurt. Nowadays it's just those rubber swords, I don't think being hit with them hurts much at all, it's mostly the five acting it out. In this regard, the hot spring inn's darts were pretty rad as well.

Would it be a bad idea to share Gaki no Tsukai to my parents? They like funny things and all but I don't know what they think about foreign things & reading subtitles. What I would prefer to see instead of this is something of a splice between that method and the current system.

So, say while some are off doing something, the others get the CHANCE to screw with them, but it could easily backfire and result in punishment for them.
It'd be like the end sections where it is now "don't get scared", but instead of that as the theme, it is still "no laughing" and some punishment for either of the teams depending on what they do.
And that would also just happen at random times throughout.
That plus a similar kind of flow to Hospital Batsu / Haunted Hotel would be nice, with a few of the newer additions of recent shows like the gameshow section.
