i dont really limit myself to japanese music, but 90% of the time when i hear non-doujin music it's just shit. i guess it's because i already know which circles produce music i like, so i don't have to look anywhere else.

I'm almost done listening to that massive touhou lossy music collection. I say that but the torrent has updated siince and I don't really know which circles get the new stuff but I'd say I've listened to at least 80% of v15 (its at v17 now though). Its taking me ages because I end up looking for non-touhou works of circles I really like, and discover non-touhou circles of similar genres which I enjoy.

I like Japanese and doujin music but a lot of times I don't really remember the tracks. Same happens to me with electronic music. I enjoy listening it to it but I couldn't say "Man, I really like this specific part in this specific song" in 90% of the cases.

Maybe I need memorable vocals or something, like Ichigo.

You should check out speedcore too. It's slightly older than lolicore, but its sound is pretty similar.
Look for Dj Sharpnel and m1dy for notable artists.

Because the only doujin music that doesn't sound like absolute crap happen to be Touhou arranges. Without something to base their music on, most doujin artists end up sounding really bad. As an example, take any circle that usually does Touhou arranges doing an original album. Or any circle that does original albums only.

It was a Touhou vocal of Yuyuko's theme and it was in fluent English. The singer was male and probably has English as his first language. I think he did a Nitori vocal too, but I'm not sure.

i sympathise, for me though its more the mode that classical often resembles, rather than the exact sounds, which is: music that gives me 'space to think', so to speak. something that evokes the imagination or feeling, rather than invoking/taking it over/imposing.

to that end, i also like things like electronica (such as BoC), or certain bands of metal, hip hop (rap should be used to tell a story, if its just noise or melody, its superfluous, and other things do that better), or instrumental folk (like john fahey, bluegrass, ect). basically anything that has the right tempo, i like.
