Mokou and Kaguya's relationship has healed a lot over the years. There is a good chance that it'll continue to heal, and eventually they'll only have each other to take comfort in. Whether they become lovers or stays friends, it doesn't matter, but the idea that they could 'never fall in love' is a little bit more ludacris than the idea that they could, given their development (which in itself is something of a rarity in Touhou)

I think the person making the doujin is more important in making it a success than the pairing. If the author has a talent for it any pairing can work, often crack pairings are more interesting because of how rare they are. It's better than generic Marisa x Alice ones.
