As far as Japan itself, Indians respect it as a first world country and foreign policy wise are warmer toward it because of course they want to help counter China's influence.

As far as anime and particular elements of Japanese culture, Indians don't particularly "enjoy" the culture. It's not that they don't like it, people think the food and art is great, but for the most part they're unaware of Otaku culture or don't make much of it.

As far as anime goes, there's anime on TV (most notably Animax network), but they don't really have much exposure to appreciate how it's different from cartoons; they think it's just cartoons at first glance.

There are a lot of younger generation who either get exposed thru anime TV or from internet, and they would like to grow their following. But right now it's still relatively small.

McDonalds is a big name in fast food that's afraid of becoming irrelevant.

So, I think McDonalds, at least in the US, is trying to shake the image of over-sized portions marketed to people in poverty.

So their marketing strategy has shifted from marketing as much as possible for as cheap as possible to targeting higher earning demographics with less overhead cost on providing large quantities.
