I'm the same. Although I don't mind single images generally, if an artist makes a whole book, I feel like I end up losing some respect for them.

As for cercis, her art is gorgeous, but I always felt that her way of portraying the characters felt dubious, and somewhat perverted. I'm not surprised at all she did full-out porn.

Nowadays I have R-18 images turned off on my Pixiv though. If people want to do porn that's fine by me, plus it's not like I can do anything about it, but I feel safer knowing something disturbing won't suddenly pop out at me. I used to not be bothered at all by porn images of Touhous, but after all these years I have grown incredibly sick of having to see it all the time.

If I'd make a backstory of the Taoists I'd depict Futo as male in the past.
I know she's based on Futohime, but it's just inspiration, like Tojiko who is based on both Soga clan and Tojiko no Iratsume, but both names used are the surname. So they're not clearly reflection of the real history.

I'd make Futo as little brother of Futohime and Moriya who both left him, a Shinto general who soon will have to clash with Prince Shotoku in a war.
I'd still make Tojiko as Shotoku's bride, though.

It's cooler than making her Tojiko's mom like how the history she's based on depicted.

I dunno. I'm fine with Cercis's depiction of Futo as the (somewhat tortured) stepmother of Tojiko. It makes her awakening and release in Ten Desires all the sweeter. Think about it: after a lifetime of torment, suffering and loss, she has finally attained not only the immortality she sought, but also a peace of mind. She no longer needs to worry about her familial business, or about the deteriorating state of her body. She is free to do whatever she pleases with impunity, probably for the first time in her entire life. This also explains her cheerful, almost childish attitude: she is at last, finally, able to simply enjoy life without worry.

If I made a story/manga about Futo, it'd be about her reliving her teenage years, only now without the burdens of her past. A second youth, if you will. This is totally not because I want to date a cheerful, happy Futo or compliment her hair's scent as I kiss her goodbye after our date. That'd be unreasonable. Absolutely unacceptable.

Of course they'd be different in many ways from the actual historical characters, but I'd use the male characters as a main basis.

Futo and Tojiko's relationship in particular is very interesting. Their clans were enemies but apparently they were close friends. There's no mention on Tojiko and Miko's relationship in canon whatsoever, so to make them married/engaged makes no sense to me.

There's nothing implying they don't get along, although their circumstances when alive where most likely complicated. Akyuu says it was due their rivalry that Tojiko died, but that makes no sense when you take their personalities in to account. Would someone like Tojiko truly forgive Futo, if she had honestly tried to murder her and also abused her trust? Akyuu has been wrong about other things, so I take it more as her theory than something entirely canon.

What do you mean? There's nothing in canon that implies that they're actually that close, regardless of what Japanese history says. It's a common fan portrayal but there's nothing wrong with seeing it differently.

To make them exactly like their Japanese history counter part wouldn't make any sense, because they are obviously very different. I meant generally, I see much more likeness with Futo and Moriya and Tojiko and Umako than I do with Futohime/Iratsume.
