If you want some cool stuff to listen to check out Nile's album "annihilation of the wicked". Nile is an American Technical Death Metal band that uses Ancient Egyptian/Near Eastern mysticism for musical/lyrical influence. It's pretty awesome.

If death metal isn't your thing you might like more melodic power metal, which is pretty cheesy stuff in my opinion, but I know a lot of people who love it because of that. You might want to check out Korpiklaani or Ensiferium too, for more of a European Folk Power Metal sound.

*core is just an easy way to say "heavy and hard" in a music genre. It applies to whatever you want. grindcore, deathcore, mathcore, happy hardcore, lolicore, whatever.

Pretty much any Xcore band is awful though.
