high school setting itself is what makes vns lacking. if it had more college or adult settings it would be far more interesting. there is only so many places you can go with a fucking HS student. you dont even see real love, but with a college student you can see a real person deal with real life. its what made steins gate so popular and many other vns/anime. you get much deeper characters with actual personalities.

um because it does, a lot.
Your not even living your life in HS.
your not even fully grown or your true self, any love in high school just seems fake. you dont have the real time and life with your lover like you can as a college student or older. if they got rid of the hs setting we can have much better romance like maison ikkoku.

You should have a look at the report thread for Rewrite some time.

And that's a simple VN that he filled with errors.

He utterly buttfucked the prose in the WAB games. He's about as good a translator as a midlevel Mangagamer guy, but instead of working on shit moege and nukige, he tries to translate things far out of his league, can't understand metaphor in writing, and has shit English skills so can't put anything in any more than awkward overly literal English even if he could. In fact, Symphonic Rain might as well be college since the school pretty much is that in the first place. Grisaia's isn't even really a school. Cross Chanel's isn't used as anything more than a place for them to be stuck. etc.

You're retarded. It all depends on how much work the editor puts in. If they get the nuance of the line (it's not even at the level of shit if the translation is wrong), they can always write a whole new sentence based on that and deletes the original, obviously a pile of shit can turn out good.

That's a very vague field. I don't know what your "styles" mean. Extremely verbose, frequent use of a method of expression? Those can easily be translated.

Epick reaction image, /a/ bro. Please refrain from using them from now on.

You seem to misunderstand the process of translation. It's not a boolean thing, being either a clearly bad translation or a clearly good translation. In reality, no translation is ever 100% accurate simply because you can never convey everything in a sentence in the other language without making shit up (and thus adding to it). A translation has a certain degree of accuracy; it's not just either 'making shit up' or 'perfectly conveys the original writing'; in-between you have all kinds of possibilities, such as 'technically accurate but omits the author's style', 'mostly accurate with some mistakes', 'properly conveys the original style but does not technically accurately translate everything', 'translation and style correct but nuances lost', and so on. If you count any translation with inaccuracies of any kind as a 'shit translation', then every translation in the history of mankind is shit.

Try reading the translations of Majikoi S or Forest if you think literal is better. The translators sucked every bit of charme of the games. They're sterilized. If you can accept this as legitimate good translations, you will also be able to read machine translated games without feeling much pain.
