Played Paradise Lost up to the OP movie. The production values certainly aren't that stellar. The protagonist and seemingly all the side characters are unvoiced and I don't know what to think of BGMs yet. The OP didn't even have vocals and the Engrish actually managed to make me cringe a bit even though I usually don't care that much.

This. You really get the feeling that Totono was centered around its climax and that nothing else seemed to matter after that. It's like they thought the player wouldn't care about anything that transpired once the rush that came with Miyuki's wild over subsided, which was a huge mistake on their part. In fact, the choosing between Aoi and Miyuki felt like the worst scene overall, even worse than the earlier renai parts. You know a game must be seriously fucking bad when everything it's been leading up to just doesn't work or mesh well.

Totono was a poor game overall, but I'm not going to lie, I was affected on some level by what Shimokura was trying to say because I think that sort of thing is neat. I like when carefully constructed walls are chipped away at, and Aoi was a fascinating character.

Miyuki masturbating to 'you' was forced as HELL though. It makes me wonder what Totono would have been like if they took Shimokura's ideas and gave them to someone who could actually work with them.

for some odd reason it feels like /jp/ gives more slack to games than /vg/. /vg/ will shit on 9/10 games whereas people here seem to praise 7/10 and there is less pointless hating. considering /jp/ is elitist I thought the opposite would be the case.

Having one heroines take up 2/3 of the game and most of the ending also makes the final scene seem silly. I bet very few people picked Aoi. I agree. First the reader had to sit through the brutally cringe inducing scene that was Shinichi's birthday then holy shit, you have Miyuki appearing from under the bed. Even though the yandere shift was expected, I honestly never would have expected Miyuki to completely hijack the system and rewrite the game even though I had guessed a lot of Totono's major twists just from the trial.

Yeah, that's the thing. You only end up continuing Totono to see what will happen next or what direction it'll take the characters, not because it managed to fully immerse you, let alone make you feel for the characters or their plights.

I am probably one of the only people on /jp/ who did that, going by a previous thread. You could spend a lot of time writing about her and still have new things to consider whereas yeah, Miyuki was more of a regular heroine who happened to be taken in by something very much beyond her. Even though Totono pushed you more towards Miyuki and even though she technically deserved it more, I still ended up choosing Aoi. I liked how much of an anomaly she was within their world, the kind of character whose very existence has the potential to disrupt the entire narrative, much like SDR2's Komaeda.

And she did, to great effect. What she brought to Totono along with the climax are probably my favourite aspects about it.

Neither did I. It was just so terribly awkward and I wanted it over and done with as soon as possible, which certainly was the intention. It's like, the reader started up Totono possibly with the intention of choosing Miyuki. That is what happens when you see her as another obstacle to clear, another heroine's whose affection is a goal so deal with the result. Like you shouldn't run away because this is all because of your own personal actions with you deciding to start Totono, let alone read eroge in the first place.

Rakuen is entertaining if you can completely and utterly suspend your disbelief. The first half of the main story is more of a preparation for the actual plot events (which is actually pretty good since the main heroines are entertaining as ever) and when the action does kick in it's pretty damn silly. It's still all nice and dandy until the few last chapters where the writes starts pulling twists out of his ass with no previous foreshadowing whatsoever and especially the ending is absolutely, fucking, batshit retarded. I can't stress this enough, like holy shit, I cringed more than during I/O's final ending. What the flying fuck were they thinking?

Another one of my big beefs with Rakuen was that the antagonists (new and old) receive no further characterization whatsoever and end up being two-dimensional "muahahahaaa, I'm so evil" cartoon villains. Also more of personal thing, but I felt that the last chapters stupidly deconstructed all of Yuuji's (now non-canon) character development in Kajitsu routes.
Properly bad spoilers: The routes in Kajitsu were all about Yuuji being unable to kill people, and it actually being the right thing to do in order to get over his past, while in Rakuen he goes full Jack the Ripper, kills everyone on Tartarus and blows the place up because fuck the police with no later repercussions to his mental state and receives a happy harem ending in his private island conveniently revealed to be left for him by Asako FUCK

I thought it was pretty clear that he gets past that early in the game after talking with Kazuki and Asako in his head. I was shuffling through DI and KKK videos on Youtube and in retrospect the more I think about the latter the worse type of cocktease the whole game feels like. Was it really necessary to block out all the old arias from Dies Irae with that unintelligible noise/text while reasoning that it's language from the old world and therefore the protagonists' minds can't comprehend it?

I mean, it's not like anyone had any trouble figuring out who those characters were supposed to represent. After listening to the unblocked ones it seems Light actually went out of their way to rerecord the same lines for KKK and it feels such a waste they're never used properly. Many of the important battles ended up being bit of killjoys when you're not hearing what they're actually saying and the game still pretends that it's being subtle about it. If you're going to be pulling on my nostalgia strings then you better do it all the way.

It's probably the best way Masada found to solve the situation of knowing, as a writer, that your characters should say plenty of things that you don't want the reader to know yet, and it sort of adds to the replay value.

Fair enough, though it still didn't feel that huge of reveal considering the cat's pretty much already out of the bag once you hear the DI remixes as BGM; Rozen Vamp during the very second scene in the game and especially Einsatz + Dies Irae Mephistopheles during the first proper Yatsukahagi encounter with Morei and Akuro. I don't think there's anyone who didn't figure it out by that point, plus the actual mystery of how they ended up there would still be a proper unsolved twist that wouldn't really be spoiled by hearing the old arias.

Speaking of which, anyone else wondering if Masada is just pulling our leg by saying that Senshinkan isn't also going to be part of the series? I mean "座" is mentioned in 夢界六勢力 section in the official website (though it could mean many things but seemingly the game loves words with multiple meanings), there's at least two long-haired girls either of which could end up being revealed to be 第一天 and according to plot introduction the main characters "don't feel like being dragged into this, like they themselves chose this path". Her description in KKK states that her throne was supposedly along the lines of "I am a hero of righteousness, therefore I need an evil antagonist to fight against" and the main characters could unknowingly be following that world's principles, or the whole game takes place before first throne. Setsuna sure is something though. Earlier on I had the impression that she was a good girl, if a bit on the subconsciously manipulative side. But after her confession to Haruki I have no doubt about it. She knows exactly what she wants and will willingly fuck things up around her in order to get it. Her not waiting until graduation to confess says a lot about her, really. The early bird catches the worm and all that. She sensed something brewing between Haruki and Kazusa and felt like she had to stop it just so she wouldn't be left alone? Holy shit.

Also, assuming that Kazusa is the one going off on that plane like what was shown at the beginning, I bet she can't fucking wait to have her out of the picture. They may be friends, but you can't help but wonder what Setsuna is really thinking at the same time.

As for Real Imouto, the setting had a lot of good drama potential, but I didn't feel like it was very well utilized. That and it seemed really incomplete. For all its faults, I found Gears of Dragoon to be fun. And it's always nice to see a clearly main heroine who's a) essentially a loli and b) proactive and has a personality. Characters like Theta are usually second choices.

Also, the chaos route was...arousing. Including the last scene in the bad ending with Doctor having captured Theta, which was perfectly placed to make the player feel bad about not getting the good end. And for getting a boner.

Some of us don't use /s/ or ribbit (God have mercy on you) because they just want their dose of 2D due to preference. Although KS is a rather low-quality specimen for those who don't know better or are EOPs. Same with "finding actual girls to spend time with". Some of us don't want to bother with that or are too spineless to get one.

For some people spending time getting attached to a character(s) and most of the time involving the erotic aspect of "dating" as well could even replace a part of their social life (or even all of it, I don't know). It might creep a normie out, but that's just how some of us are.

If it does creep you out, then /jp/ is definitely not the place for you.
