I've always felt like it didn't really do justice to its own premise. Like you have this tournament where powerful magicians from all over the world come to kill each other and that sounds really awesome, but then it turns out that half of them are just Japanese kids who were already in the area to begin with. And even the other ones aren't particularly memorable. I mean why not throw in like a scary Haitian voodoo guy or maybe a creepy eastern European witch? You know, do something interesting with the concept.

Rider is still a first-rate girl though.

I didn't like Fate much, because Shiro was as useful as a sleeveless straight jacket, But I did enjoy reading UBW.

It's not really a worldwide deal, it's a small name event because magi are freaked the fuck out by a promise of a "miracle for the winner, everybody else dies" game.

I think Fate series has one of the best high concepts among all visual novels. It's the kind of scenario where one cannot help being drawn in and speculating what he'd do in the situation, or thinking what mythical figure X would be like as a Servant, or so on.

The actual VN... is mediocre. Characters are especially grating, I ended up annoyed by almost all of them. Shirou is a horrible protagonist because the player is going to disagree with him so often, and would work better as a side character.
