What's the best way to learn Japanese?
How long will it take?
I want to be able to understand the average anime episode within a year and a half.

>> No.11333763

You can know the basics in a year.
As with any language you start with the alphabet.

you'll never learn japanese - you seem pretty dense to me, better give up

>> No.11333765

It's feasible within a year and a half of hard study.

It will take years, on average, though.

/int/ had a sticky on how to learn a foreign language last time I was in there, check that out.

And yeah, people on this board know it and I assume it didn't take them all through university to learn it since when people graduate they quit using this place.

What's the most widely spoken/most popular form of Japanese reading?

Is hard study 2 hours a day or would it be around 4?
I'm ok with 2-3 years of studying Japanese.
Anything more and I'd rather learn Spanish.

2 hours is a lot.

If you can maintain that, and be productive, then yes, that is certainly hard study, and you will make significant progress in a year. Even 1 hour a day is a lot.

4 hours is too much, for all but the most skilled learners. It will more likely cause burn out than anything else.

It is important to find a pace you can maintain. Spending hours being inefficient is far worse than spending a few minutes being very efficient.

I prefer reading with my dick in my left hand as it helps me concentrate. Sometimes I like to change up things however and read with my dick in the right.
I only do this if the text I'm reading contains many unconventional Kanji. I sometimes start stroking my dick with my right to improve my concentration and be able to better understand the text.

There's also hands free reading, but it requires quite a lot of practice and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just starting out yet. Once you have a certain amount of skill at reading Japanese text you should ask Moogy or someone of equivalent knowledge about what to do with your dick while reading.

Well I sometimes spend an hour a day figure drawing and god it's boring but I do it anyway to become a better artist. I also lift weights for 2 hours every other day. I might end up dropping weight lifting since it's an expensive hobby in terms of diet. An hour a day of Japanese seems pretty easy and manageable.

So you are going into High School. Well let me tell you boy. Both Japanese and Spanish are a shit language along with French, German, Russian and any other language your school will most likely offer. If you really want to learn a language learn Latin. It will actually help you later in your life.

>> No.11333816

Japanese is standardised in writing.

There exist dialects, but they're for speech. If they do come up, it will likely be in dialogue, and won't require much additional study to understand, if it isn't obvious, anyway. Using dialectical speech for general writing is not common at all.

>>11333808

You can likely do it, then. I struggle to dedicate more than a few minutes to anything.

>> No.11333817

>>11333806
I don't care about what will help me later in life.
I can always learn Japanese and watch cartoons.

I'll probably watch anime for at least 10-20 more years.
20 might be an over-estimate but I will never stop what makes me happy.

An hour goes by pretty fast when you're doing something. I'm not really sure, I can watch a boring 2 hour movie for the big pay-off at the end and never lose interest. I think it's different for everyone.

>>11333817
No you won't. This is a fact. If you actually think that you are going to watch some shitty cartoons for over 10 years then you should kill yourself. It is logical to learn Japanese if you read VNs, but you obviously don't read at all so it will not matter.

Interactive Text Hooker + Translation Aggregator and start playing untranslated VNs.

Start with easy ones like Flyable Heart. I did Tsujidou-san after that, and wow what a jump in difficulty, but finished that too.

When I first did this it took several minutes to decipher each line, but then after a week my speed reading it doubled as I recognized the same characters that keep showing up. Doing this I have finished three VNs within a year and my reading speed is probably now 1/4th the speed of a fluent Japanese reader.

What's slowing me down is the release of good translated VNs which I want to read without missing anything, currently Grisaia is taking up my time.
