Of course they're not good as real textbooks. Often they're shallow and don't go far enough.
But if you want the Khan-Academy sort of intuitive-explanation-style supplement, then it's perfect.

I'd only use them for anything other than fun if I was struggling in a subject, and wanted a layman's perspective.

Usually we use に to indicate time. (Not that it's always used like that, but one of it's main uses is to indicate the time of when you did the action)
