Finished Totono, I will now express my opinion in numbers.
Story: meh/10
Art: no more penises the length of arms/10
Writing zzz/10
Concept: interesting but ultimately led to not much, I don't get what the ending was trying to tell me that we should care a bit more about heroines and not resort to maximizing entertainment out of a game by enjoying other routes? Maybe it means that heroines are real people that you should try to respect them more as someone you like. Maybe it means that I am a fag for wanting to 100% it to try and see more ends or that I am a fag for playing eroge in the first place. Maybe it went over my head or under it./10
Ero: good, except that last Miyuki scene felt forced/10
Voice Acting: Not bad, Yutarou was great and Haru was pretty nice as well/10
Series of Scenes Between Part 2 to Part 3: Best part of the game by a massive margin/10
Heroines: Too one sided in development and screen time/10
Protagonist: Bitch Nigga/10
Overall: mildly enjoyed it/10

>> No.11273293

>>11273284
It's just telling you to treat heroines as real people and not something to be cleared. At least some respect for them instead of 'oh I just cleared X, now to Y!'.

>> No.11273303

>>11273293
That's a little retarded. When I play games I sometimes can't play more than one route because I like the 1 heroine too much. Tons of games have only 1 or 2 worthwhile heroines anyways.. I have really cared about clearing, I care about enjoying the ride. I guess some people have other opinions, like those with OCD.

>I sometimes can't play more than one route because I like the 1 heroine too much
Same case with me, I literally stop myself from doing it.

Totono tried to force feelings of guilt on the player, but it doesn't work like that. It's only effective when the player develops it by himself, which is especially true in this case since we are talking about a type of game created so that the player gets immersed in a romance with a character. I find it ironic because the average moege is capable of doing this by itself without any need for a gimmick.

>> No.11273342

>>11273327
Totono suffered by how short it was and how little it went into the renai part. They banked too much on the meta aspect and the yandere shock, they should have never released all that info that made none of that surprising. I felt for the first half they writer wasn't even trying. The filler dialogue and the lack of actual development hurt it as well.

>I find it ironic because the average moege
There's that as well, liking a heroine has to be organic. The player gets attached by himself which is hard when one heroine takes up 80% of the game. I believe that the game could have worked better with the concept if the renai was good enough to stand on its own.

I can fap to my top favorite ones, but not on the first time I see it. This really doesn't make any logical sense, but it feels "wrong" since they are usually intended to be not only arousing but also cute and romantic and I don't want to ruin the latter by making it simple wank material. After I complete the character's route it's free game, though. If I had to put it in another way, it would be kinda like trying out something for the first time and the following times being only repeats. I probably think way too hard about this, but I like taking my moege very seriously.

And yeah, Tohno Soyogi's voice does miracles. On the subject of fetishes, I'm a very vanilla guy and my personal favorite would be happy vanilla impregnation, so Ruria's after story in Koiiro Marriage does wonders for me as she asks you to impregnate her and calls you Papa. It never fails to get me aroused.

Reporting back with 俺と彼女がミステリーな件について: I just finished Ayame's route, which was kind of shit, and am about to start Miyako's now, just because she's adorable. I have no interest in the other characters, so I will probably end there. I mean this game doesn't have a story, so I don't see any point in playing the girls I don't like.

The setting seemed pretty sweet at first. It's a small town so you'd expect a Sinsemilla-like atmosphere. But it's nothing like that. I didn't enjoy it at all.

The game has, as somebody mentioned in the last thread, a very short common route and after that you just choose which girl's route you want to play by clicking her on the screen. Since this game doesn't have a common story I don't really see any problem in that. Though, that might be a problem in itself, that there is no real story.

Now that I've typed out my feelings regarding this game I don't think I want to play this anymore. It's shit. But it is beautiful.

Just finished Evolimit.

I have to say, I find it annoying when a certain heroine's path is considered the true one. I feel it's an insult to the rest of the heroines. It was especially true for me this time, because I found Shizuku's incessant tsukkoming to be offensively, horribly tiring, to the point that I couldn't like her anymore when I got to her route. The writing was indeed better, as an anon warned me before I started, but I didn't enjoy it as much. Kokoro ;_; Monkeys ;_;

On the other hand, I found Litia's story to be far more engrossing, and Litia herself very, very cute. The things she had to face, and her growth as a character, touched me. When, after her ending, the main menu screen showed her in her wedding dress with that music, finally happy, I couldn't stop grinning. It was so heartwarming, and I truly felt she deserved it. That's the true ending, in my mind.

The side characters were great, too. Pochi, ドS shota and Yayoi (I was pleasantly surprised she got an H-scene) mostly, but the others were likable too.

Also, the ED was hauntingly beautiful.

Also, powerlevels.

Low resolution, 4:3 material is always best on a CRT monitor/TV because the image doesn't get scaled, but the pixels get "resized" so it will always look native. But newer VNs are mostly 16:9 and 720p so you'll get better results on an LCD.

No. It's still limited by the technology, both in the playing and recording device. You don't think the needle moves up and down infinitely fast do you?

Yeah. I've been using cheap 17" throwaways for a while now. Always native, regardless.
Just recently got an EZIO FlexScan F980, and it works wonders. Technically reaches higher resolutions than the FW900 due to its 137kHz limit, but it's nowhere near as clear. And it starts distorting past 1200 high due to simple age.
It's more of a gaming monitor than a graphic one, and you can tell from the flicker at 60Hz, which makes motion nothing short of beautiful.

I really wish digital technologies would surpass these things though. They seem so fragile and old.
Currently you're stuck with shit motion but great colors and viewing angles, or vice versa with 120Hz hacks for 60Hz motion. With shit black levels, scaling, and input delay regardless.
>>11278736
Well, they often hurt people's eyes out of sheer brightness, 60Hz flicker, or just simply how they work. Some of them make sounds that give me headaches.
But it's strange and by person. I can't stand staring at most LCDs for longer than an hour or two tops. Especially CIFL backlights or whatever. They give me serious headaches.
>>11278709
Depends on the LCD, if you prefer size over benefits, and the various aspects of the VN.
I still output 16:9 on 4:3. Since my LCD is 2560x, and nothing VN-wise is that resolution, scaling becomes an issue. And it's just not worth it.

So, anons, I'm having some trouble playing a VN. Perhaps someone on here could help me out. I've been working on this for a couple of days and have made little progress.

I have a virtualbox machine running Windows 7 64-bit in which I installed my VNs. They all work fine except for Demonbane. When I load the game up, I get sound but the image displayed is pic related. If I minimize the game and bring it back up, I the screen displays but only a single frame. It doesn't refresh. Meanwhile, the preview on the VB Manager shows the game running just fine.

I tried messing with the settings for the machine including installing Guest Additions with basic 3D support, with the experimental 3D support, and without 3D support at all. I get the same results.

I know there is a way to get the game to run because I somehow achieved it a few years ago but it was on a laptop that I've already wiped and for some reason, I didn't document my settings.

So, does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help.

(Ignore all those VMs. Most of them were to check if cracks work or to run keygens and stuff like that without worrying about installing spyware and whatnot on my main PC.)

While we're talking about chuuni, I finally got my copy of Xblaze. Doesn't feel like anything outstanding so far, but I have to admit that their production values are good. It really does feel like watching anime, since there is very little narration, making it very simple for those with little reading experience (though they do use kanji where most people don't - as expected of a chuuni title). It really feels similar to Axanael in that aspect, though I liked the latter's aesthetics better.

It also feels like the Vita version wasn't ported that well from PS3 in some aspects: the CGs are always zoomed in, and the OP movie had some artifacts. Nothing major, though.

Finished KKK.
First playthrough is absolutely great but forcing players to start from the beginning and skip everything save for few short character specific scenes until the epilogues really kills the pacing. I think it would have worked much better if they just made the whole game a one long route with no branching choices.

The actual "true route" / final battle were also a bit lackluster and in my opinion Hajun was a really shitty and uninteresting main antagonist. The game's pretty heavy handed with it's "other people = extremely good thing vs. alone = shittier than the lowest hell" moral of the story and it all comes out as really black and white, especially when the same aesop is repeated every single battle scene.

Overall still a rather good read even if it didn't manage to get me as pumped up as Dies Irae did. Waiting warmly for Senshinkan.

It's a moege. You should have a pretty good idea of what to expect. If the heroines don't appeal to you there's no reason to bother.

I've only played Yune's route so far. It was pretty cute and I enjoyed it, and some of the scenes had my HNNNG meter pegged. Unfortunately, the drama is the exact type I hate, but fortunately it plays a very small part. I like the characters in this game so I'll probably do the other routes in between other games like I usually do with moege.

The real plot started, just another time loop game. Cool so far though. What I don't like is this: You know how most games have 10-20 choices and about 120 save slots? This game has 100~ choices and 30 save slots.

Didn't really count hours but it's definitely much shorter than Dies Irae. As I said you only play through the main story once, then skip through most of it on next playthroughs and read the 3 remaining relatively short pairing chapters before getting the true ending which consists of only one battle scene and credits.

Got around to finishing several routes...

This is split into two stages - you can only access the second stage after doing all the endings(include one without any cg event). First stage can be a standalone VN as it has all the ero cg events, and the second stage can be thought as deeper development for the girl in question. While it might sound good, the development is rather shallow and not really given time to come through. IMO this is quite a failure since they dumped all the ero into the first part and thus allowing more flexibility for the writer(s) for punchy stuff without the ero event breaking flow.

So the idea is good, execution is poor, especially this VN has many selection prompts. The status quo of male MC's core philosophy is lacking, feels like an empty slogan just hangs on his mouth than a life-change experience (shown in beginning of second stage). He is also pushed around quite easily which felt a little weird as he isn't really painted to be care-free type but a responsible type (his inner thoughts with the little sister reveal this)

Overall, nice idea, decent effort (art, engine, music, etc), execution wasn't so well. Gleamgarden was better.
