Man, Chrono Cross was awesome when it first came out. It was an immersive world filled with beautiful colors, heartfelt music, and a gigantic cast.

Just because it's dated now and wasn't as good as Chrono Trigger doesn't mean it's some pile of shit.

The art is fine, nothing special. The level design outside the dungeon crawling is decent too. Graphics-wise it's poor, but the areas do at least feel fairly alive. And I never said it was a good game.

It's good-looking, the music is good, the text is decent, all that jazz, but you can only carry one (or two) items at a time and it really, really gets on your nerves. I don't know why they ever thought that was fine, but thank god they fixed it for later games in the series.

I'd play suikoden 1 before 2, it's pretty short but they're both pretty damn good games together. suikoden 3 and on dont really tie together as closely as 1/2, because of location. They're also not as good.

Suikoden 2 was probably one of the best games i've ever played though.

Why is Grandia so praised?
I finished it a couple days ago and was unimpressed. The battle system consists of pressing Triangle and waiting to win, the story is the typical uninspired An Ancient Evil Awakens with no side content.
The 3D dungeons are nice and the music is good, but that doesn't make a game.
