Why does Japan always have bonus tracks on albums released over there?

>> No.11222190

I already asked this question:

I like that Japanese releases often have karaoke versions. Vocals annoy me; I want to listen to music, not someone talking.

Because they chide us baka gaijin for piracy. We're all content thieves to them. They get to make themselves feel better by spending literally $200 for a DVD box set. Meanwhile some Japanese investors are laughing their way to the host club.

Why wouldn't they have bonus tracks? Or are you asking why they're called bonus tracks instead of just track nine and track ten?

>> No.11222298

>>11222287
He's asking why the Japanese versions specifically have bonus tracks.

The answer is because cheap bootlegs from China and Hong Kong.

>> No.11222308

I'd assume it's just a holdover from the old days, albums would release significantly later in Japan, adding bonus tracks was a way to discourage importing.

>> No.11222306

Because albums are more expensive over there, so it's an incentive to buy locally instead of importing it from elsewhere. This question belongs in /mu/.

>> No.11222312

>>11222230

They pirate like everyone else. They just don't talk about it so they can enjoy a moral superior erection when they talk about those thievish foreigners.

They just happen to have a different taste in piracy.

I thought it was because it was so cheap to just import them so that gives them incentive to buy them from stores in Japan

I think it's because it's cheaper to import CDs than to buy locally, so they add in the Japan bonus track to stop people from importing CDs.

For all the people out there saying that Japanese aren't stingy and that they actually buy albums and using that as an explanation:
It turns out its the exact opposite. Japanese people "need" this kind of incentive to actually buy albums. Prove me wrong, heres my argument.
It is a well known fact that the Japanese economy have been facing harsh times over the last decades (even before the American-European crisis)
Part of this is due to the deflation in their economy, which is caused by the fact that Japanese tend to put too much money on their banks and spend too little. With consume so low, the government has to take several actions to stimulate expenditure, or else the population would save most of their money.
This money-saving culture is not something new to the Japanese people, they've had this tradition since World War 2, because they needed to work hard to rebuild their country and couldn't afford to spend money carelessly within such hard times.
Thus, they had to save the most, in hopes of a better future for them and their descendants.
I studied most of these through Economy classes.
Furthermore, the Japanese are also experts in pirating stuff. In fact, many of the pirating software such as Share and Perfect Dark were developed by them. They can and they will attempt to share stuff using freenet and the like if they can get something for free.

Now what do you have to say these points?

I don't like this. They've taken an analogy (computer memory) and brought it back to the basis of the analogy (human memories).

That's like if I called my gardening television series "The Broadcast" because broadcast originally meant casting seeds over a broad area, and also it's a television broadcast.
