It's still basically just as easy. Come to think of it, you wouldn't even need to know kana. You would just need to know kana when you see it, and then you could just look up a couple of charts to romanize the title. That's really a small task.

What if someone was intimidated by Japanese and never learned the most basic of reading skills? Before learning they probably can't tell the difference between kana and kanji. So they wouldn't know identifying (and reading) some kana is much easier than identifying kanji. But in order to understand that their time would be well spent learning the basics in order to identify a doujin title, they would already need to have the knowledge that it's actually going to be easy. If they knew that, then they're not actually beginners.

As far as I know お母さん is the only word where it is read as かあ (along with お母様 and so on). The standard kunyomi is はは and the standard onyomi is ぼ.

There was this full color doujinshi I wanted which was released last Comiket, but it ran out of preorders before I had the chance to get one myself. I was so incredibly angry I didn't get it and I thought I'd never see it again. So I contacted the artist and convinced him to sell more copies this upcoming Comiket and I already preordered it. God damn that was such a relief.

A lot of people like to bring themselves down based on what they're not doing or where they're at, but you might be worth more than you think you are! Be positive, your pessimism might just be clouding your judgement! I've been browsing /jp/ and only /jp/ for years, and while I had my moments of downtime, that hasn't stopped me from picking up the violin and learning Japanese. Just remember that if you never even try to start, you'll never get anywhere, so try your best!
