Recently, I've been using the Universal Pokemon Randomizer to give myself the national dex at the start and change the starting pokemon. I like giving myself Satsuki Rin to start with, not because she's particularly good or overpowered, but because I miss her.

Poor Satsuki, doomed to have never been.

Plus, there's no point in me making a 1.8 hack. It can't possibly compete with any of the hacks out there. Go play Emerald instead.

Stylistically the 1.8x sprites at least match the in-game art of generation 3. There's also the issue that there aren't any 1.5x TD sprites. That said, 1.8x only has two sprites for some characters.

I'm trying to go after a more authentic Pokemon experience with Touhou characters. If you want something completely different, play hemo's new game. But if you don't like it, you don't have to play it.

I have noticed that, yeah. 1.8 hacks tend to have a fair bit of redundancy, which is good in some ways, because it lets you play with your favorite Touhous without being punished, but is bad in others, because it leads to less variety.

Personally, I like playing both 1.5 and 1.8 hacks as the mood suits me. As I said in the other thread, I'd like to see less joke 'mons, Last Word versions for Touhous that don't get them, and more/more balanced unique moves. Basically some love for Touhous that don't get any, even if it's simply renaming existing moves and restricting them to certain lines, which would further reduce that redundancy you mentioned.

I'd also like to see Ten Desires characters, and, if you can manage to find a sprite artist, some Newhus as well.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what I'm doing about the sprites yet. I have the 1.5 sprites in an easy to load format, but I can always put in the 1.8 sprites later if people really want them.

Right now I'm trying to work with the current move already available, but I later plan on adding at least 50 moves. And I'm really trying to buff weaker Touhous like Hina and Yamame, while getting rid of some broken things like Speed Boost on Marisa. My biggest priority in this game is balance, while trying to make each Touhoumon unique.

I'm planning on adding TD characters as bonus mons. I think the art style clashses a little between 1.5 and 1.8, but not as much as some people think.

Oh, I'd also like to see different starring area 'mons. Almost every hack uses Nazrin, Chen, Mystia, and Wriggle, to the point that you get sick to death of them. Maybe stuff like Keine, Letty, Cirno, or whatever floats your boat.

As an aside, I'd consider making Fly available to every 'mon in the hack, given that a seeming requirement to live in Gensokyo is the ability to fly.

>> No.11148645

>>11148607
Personally I'm indifferent when it comes to 1.5 vs 1.8 sprites.
Both are fine, so just use whichever you like more.
I would like to see TD characters though and having new moves would be great.
Oh and also I'd be really cool if I'd be posssible to capture all of the Touhous without having to resort to cheats.

>>11148607

>>11148638
Thanks for your input! I'll definitely consider this. I really liked Aqua+Yui back when I played it, so I definitely want a variety of Touhoumon available.

And I don't think I'll give Fly to every Touhoumon (especially since I buffed the move like it is in Generation 5), but I will definitely consider expanding its coverage.

>>11148645
I will definitely have TD characters and new moves.

I will try to fill out all 386 slots, but I think some characters will be boss-only sorry.

>>11148649
I have the Maribel and Renko sprites, but I'm not very familiar with graphics editing. It's definitely on my list but not a priority.

Hatate also only has two forms in 1.5. :p

I think some things will clash, but I just want more options for everybody.

Well, item usage is banned in battles, battle mode is forced to Set, natures are hidden but you can take a guess at those from the base stats. The most important change is that you won't have stat advantages against the AI because EVs are disabled.

Basically, try and get something with decent IVs if you can, and play as if you're taking on real players.

Which isn't exactly fair, because unlike you, the AI trainers have access to all the puppets, evolutions, held items and TMs that they could wish for. So, pretty much every single Touhou the Elite 4 fields against you is perfectly capable of killing two thirds of your team thanks to perfect offensive type coverage if it happens to be faster - which it often will be, unless you overleveled yours like crazy.

What are you, a Communist? Of course there will be trainers better off than you, and the Elite Four are going to be hard. That's true even without the hard mode patch. At least it's still a pretty fair balance compared to other high difficulty hacks, and of course it's optional.

Questions actually, with hard mode, can you use items outside of battle, and are the X form Touhous unchanged?

Yes.

I don't think it any Touhous were changed (besides the EV thing).

>> No.11175898

Now, here's something I don't know about the EV thing because I haven't really tested it yet. Is it possible to disable them altogether, or did he just alter all the Touhous so that none of them provide any EVs when you defeat them? Because if it's the latter, Carbos and Zinc and the like would still provide EVs, up to 100 per stat. It's still not much compared to what you get from battles, but it's nothing to sneeze at, either.

Because it's somewhat jarring to see Mr. Briney worrying over his seagull, or a Pikachu frolicking at the Daycare Center. Because that's one of the few things that Aichiya's hacks have over yours. I like that you edited the dialogue manually, though, in addition to doing a replace-all to get rid of Pokemon references. Sometimes that isn't enough, and stuff slips through.

I didn't do any replace-alls, I went through the entire script. I like to pretend that puppets still exist alongside pokemon, but the pokemon you see are more used for pets and not battle machines. Any references to actual pokemon should be contextually proper.

I mostly just don't want to deal with OW sprites because Emerald uses a different palette set than FR does and I'm worried about breaking regular person OW sprites.

As for the music, I can't stand the remixes in the JP hacks. They use far too few sound channels and are exceptionally loud, and I don't know the first thing about music hacking to "fix" them myself. (That and it would take a lot of space that I don't want to use)

There will be another release though, I still plan on enabling the Aurora/Eon Ticket-related events in the future.

>> No.11183184

>>11183177
disabling item use in battle is done by editing item data structures to make it think in battle, the hyper potion the player is trying to use should be treated the same as trying to use a mach bike.

forcing set mode involves breaking a check in the game that looks to see if the player is on shift or set. i didn't do the main meat of it, doesntknowhowtoplay did, so unfortunately i can't really help much there.

in an earlier build of hard though we broke the wrong check, so stuff like confusion was identical to being slept and full paralysis would never happen. fun stuff.

Maybe specifically with Touhoumon essentials, on an visual aesthetic level at least. It has A LOT of missing battle animations. Basically it's pretty similar to having Battle Scene set to OFF all the time. Some care, some don't.
Couple nice things about it is that you can have a button for frame-skip (which doesn't fug the audio like VBA.) It also doesn't have a lot of the limitations that the romhacks have, like the audio/bgm limitations (limited sound channels, ect.)
Its also easier to deploy new mechanics/contrivances, IE getting an Axe to use instead of having to depend solely on an HM slave for Cut (something I think Faith & Prayer is doing.)

I can't say the general strategy for in-game play has changed much. I mean the AI is the same. The difficulty is better though and enemy movesets are more varied so you do have to think a bit more. If you wanted to try something different you could give the hard mode patch for emerald a shot. EVs are disabled, item use in battle is removed, and set mode is forced. Sanae is weak to tackle. Oh good.

Emerald is pretty fair when it comes to leveling. But if you hate it that much, play Blue version. Apart from the much higher experience offered, there's nothing stopping you from going to a harder area. FR/LG also has the wonderful wonderful Vs. Seeker.

Don't know what version exactly but it only included the SA characters, and the bikers were very fond of Kaguyas.

Man. Found three Momijis in the first part of the game, before you get your balls, then once I can actually catch her she's nowhere to be found. Mean.

If you're so dissatisfied, get a copy of YAPE and you can edit all of the stats yourself.

There's not that much interest anymore so I don't think a new thread is necessary right now.

Figures interest wanes as soon as I start playing.

There's honestly not that much worth discussing. Anything worth looking over was (probably) already posted in the thread. It's more or less just the same old Pokemon, but with Touhous instead.
