Enough shameless self-promotion. Witch's Garden is surprisingly fun and good after the common route. The common route has some serious pacing problems and it took me days to get through it but once into the character routes, I'm racing through it. It's a fun and easy read, which is always nice.

Still debating what to play next after I finish the last 3 routes. I'm also currently going through ひとつ飛ばし恋愛, but the cheap drama suddenly appearing in the kouhai route (can't even remember her name) kind of threw me off the game. I guess I'll go through some more backlog.

Finally had the time to finish Dangan Ronpa 2, pretty much went straigth from chapter 4 to the end.
That was pretty fucking awesome, while Dangan Ronpa 1 was overall pretty fun but simple and kind of childish Dangan Ronpa 2 was on another level entirely, be it its story, characters, murder mysteries, twists or overall narrative.

Chapter 5 in particular was really powerful, the way it played with the rules of the game with Nagito creating his own murderer was just something else and the ending...
The last chapter had Junko's return as a last boss which was predictable but the confrontation was better than in the first game, since she is a pretty great character I was glad she came back anyways.

If Dangan Ronpa 1 is a 8/10 being generous, Dangan Ronpa 2 is easily a 9+/10, definitely recommended.
Well I still have to play the island mode and read the if story but I'll leave that after Natsukumo

KEY's focus is the creation of believable worlds with in-depth stories that give you a strong emotional connection with the characters, although they're not really there yet. This is why they keep trying the same formula, with various differences introduced each time.
VNs are made by artists and writers, with programmers taking a back seat.
Valve's games are made by programmers, who then dictate the choice of artists and writers.

When I run into a situation like you describe, I look up the words in a Japanese-Japanese dictionary. 99% of the time that will help me figure out the nuance.

If that doesn't work, then search for the word on google and look at how Japanese people tend to use it. A lot of words may have similar meanings, but are each only used in a specific context.

Started VenusBlood ABYSS. I thought the gameplay was weird at first but it got fun once I got used to it. Got wrecked in chapter 1 but redid everything and got past it when I figured to use traps and dungeons to my advantage. But I just know I'll regret picking hard difficulty when the game just decides to fuck me over later on into the game. Setting and story seem to be more interesting than EMPIRE so far but I'm kinda sad it lacks muh corruptions.

I just finished Dangan Ronpa 2 recently too, pretty amazing stuff. I agree that they took everything that was lacking in the first game and improved it, especially on the character development side - I only liked a few characters in the original, but I like most of the cast in SDR2. It has a lot more emotional impact as a result. Also, having everyone be former Super High School-Level Despair was a brilliant twist. I called the 'everything is a simulation' twist pretty early, but I didn't see that one coming at all. Admittedly most of my favorite characters were killed off by the end, but I guess that can't be helped in a game like this one.

The ending felt pretty final, too... I wonder if it's even possible to have a third game.

Great setting, characters, plot, and VAs. Art was same face and the ero was no good. I loved Eris but I didn't love her route.

Two routes (and a bad end) of Natsukumo done. Quite enjoying it so far, seems it learned from harukuru's main mistakes for the most part, mainly just infodumping everything about the setting in the span of 30 minutes instead of doing it gradually
At first I was a bit wary of how what you learned in the previous route was a given in the next one, but it really helps the storytelling.
Rine's route was a bit of a drag at times but still good, hope it picks up a bit now.

Just finished Steins;Gate's FD, 比翼恋理のだーりん.
I went in not expecting much but I got really fun routes and a especially touching one (Suzuha's). It's more of a comedy than romance, but it was a fun ride still. I liked how they managed to keep the feel of the original with a heartwarming touch.
