Scripts in general are slightly bigger in English than in Japanese when nothing is cut, so keep that in mind. See CO1 for example

I was bored so I made a tool that made stats for each set of scripts (English and Japanese).

Names are determined as starting and ending with 【】. They are not included in the character or line counts.

Because English text is written in 1 byte characters and Japanese text is written in 2 byte characters, I used character counts instead of byte sizes as a comparison. Script length sizes don't really matter all that much anyway.

Lines are determined by counting newlines between the current line and the next line. If two newlines are found it's counted as a different chunk of text (line).

Before anyone calls me out on it, I probably should have worded this better. I meant that, in the context of comparing English and Japanese scripts like this, script sizes will be an inaccurate judge for a number of reasons. It's just a stat I threw in because I could easily collect it without any effort because of how I made the counter program.

I extracted the voice files from both EN and JP versions of the game.

69 voice files have been edited. (Mostly to remove kissing sounds, dirty jokes.. etc)

2642 voice files found in JP version missing in EN version. (H scenes I would assume.)

369 new voice files found in EN version but not in JP version.

In total:
JP: 21,499 files
EN: 19,226 files

Not only have they censored CG, they have removed voiced lines as well.

I'd say only around 15% or so lines (ero scenes probably) need to be translated, that's not taking into account fixing the english in the other parts to make it more readable and accessible.

I'm talking more on the motivation. The effort required is definitely lower, but I doubt anyone would -want- to volunteer themselves to fix this when most of the script is poorly translated. It's like trying to fix a sub-par product when you know the end result is a little better but still sub-par.

Nobody is going to fix / translate / re-insert anything. The track record for this kind of "restoration work" is basically non-existent.

In terms of uncensoring, I would guess in terms of both time and effort

Easy - Simple CG swaps of the 5 edited CGs (bath and the two with comparison shots being thrown around)

A bit more effort - swap the 69 edited sound files and uncensor associated lines in the script (probably some goes with swapped CGs)

More effort - reinsert and translate random short scenes (found by missing audio files), and reinsert the scene/CG with the cut SD CG

Won't happen - Translate and insert H scenes (although one could probably re-add the raw untranslated scenes back in)

For the most part, no one in the community cares about piracy. You see few saying anything about what the ErogeDownload guys do or any similar sites. That said, where Aaeru goes wrong isn't that she runs yet another piracy site, but instead that she uses it as the base for her crusade, and she goes directly to the companies saying how they are horrible.

unless you uploaded it in the first place, the opportunity is already there.
While I'm certainly unable to stop MN since they're blind and deaf, intending to go full Supipara, I'm definitely not helping them to fuck up more VNs by thinking "it's okay if we censor the living shit out of this VN because both normals will buy it anyway and VN fans will buy it because of the patch". The only way to prevent this is to work on full version only.
You're probably already involved too much with Fuwanovel to fix that, but I still want you to fully understand what you're doing.

While MN are inadequate, they certainly aren't suicidal. They can take only so much losses to start noticing money to be had on a real VN market which they are ignoring, and the sooner it happens the better. On a side note, I don't know how many Vietnamese girls are required to collect $30, but it's certainly more than MN expects.

If we go by that logic, remaining 10% is enough for both JAST and MG to exist. And I'd say that localization costs for MN can potentially be way lower than for these two.
What makes you think that a butchered release won't be pirated just as much, if not more?
Also, should I remind you why there's a fan-made patch in the first place and who could have prevented this from happening by, for example, offering 18+ DLC?

It's been said time and time again. If somebody releases a product worth buying at a standard above those who do it for free people will buy it.

I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise, and that MoeNovel would probably do better being another MG/Jast then what they are trying now. However in this particular case, we are getting a good VN translated fairly close to release, just with an unofficial patch, which while inferior to that being done originally, is superior to Moenovel having not done anything.

There is no "this particular case" anymore. Konosora's case is closed, there's just one lesson left for MN to learn from it, and we should help them do it fast instead of waiting for the same result just with more casualties.

I'm talking about their next release, whatever that is. All the likely candidates are 18+ with no all-ages version available which means the same shit's going to happen and nobody wants that for sure.

Actually, not yet, it's still salvageable, but the chances are theoretical. If MN (or, rather Will/Pulltop/new_brand) announces officially uncensored Konosora before the fan patch is released, there's still chance to satisfy all parties. I can't tell for Rusanon/Aaeru, but I'm absolutely not going to interfere with the official version should one be announced even for 2014 release.
Although it's just me wishful thinking again.

I'm obviously biased as fuck, but I can't see any significant problems with announcing official 18+ release of Konosora in a week or so. Yes, MG/JAST would probably be (rightfully) butthurt, but it's a small price for MN to pay for recovering their debut title which is likely the best title in all of their theoretically available catalogue.
Anyway, it's getting late around here. I'm off, enjoy bitter-free athmosphere.
