DDC has interesting characters and solid gameplay, and the music is perfectly adequate for the usually lackluster first 3 stages.

I for one find DDC to be an improvement to TD so far. And TD wasn't as bad as people like to say, it had some unique boss fights. There's going to be slight ups and downs in anyone's gamedev career, but I don't think ZUN has made a single *bad* game, and he'll probably retire before things get down to that.

Then again, it's not all that difficult to stay solid when you use the same formula for your games. I wish ZUN would do more experiments like Fairy Wars, Phantasmagoria, or Shoot the Bullet, and not just as spin-offs.

Have any good independent works ever come out of Comic-Con? Nope. Aside from the fact that most of Comic-Con is an industry conference used for announcements, events and sales, the indie shit peddled there is unbelievably bad. Comiket has standards, while Comic-Con (and Western events as a whole) is full of furries, attention whores, hipsters, power-autists and similar scum, all of whom are either absolutely horrible artists/writers or are so busy churning out new works for their hangers-on to fawn over that they neglect quality entirely. Aside from that, Western con artists have no work ethic, always going back on their promises, postponing their deadlines, taking many times the needed time to complete simple works and cobbling together horrible "works" to "compensate" for their laziness. To add insult to injury, Western con artists are in it for e-peen, attention and money. The vast majority of Comiket artists have proper work ethic (hard-working, don't submit subpar works, keep to deadlines) and aren't in it for money or attention (keep prices at 500 yen even for thicker books, don't do commissions and work under a circle instead of their own name).
Until Western fans realize that they don't matter compared to what they create, Western fanworks will be lazy, cheap, attention-whoring, badly researched secondary garbage.
