Life expectancy in first world counties is rising all the time, it's currently around 100 years.

Most people have children when they are 20-30 years old, this means that in one persons lifetime if they have 2 children and do the same thing when they are 20-30 it will have contributed over 50 people to the population by the time you die.

Not to mention the fact that most people in third world countries have many more children at a much earlier age.

Also, when life expectancy reaches 150 years (which is predicted to be the case in as little as 20 years time) then you will be contributing an exponentially higher number of people to the population (over 200) if you have 2 children now.

That still doesn't change the fact that population grows at an exponential rate if everyone has 2 children. If everyone were to die at current life expectancy of 100 years then for every 50 people you contribute with your partner, only 2 will die.

This means that 20 years after you die you will end up with around 120 people from the original 4 (2 + your 2 children), 20 years after that you are looking at 1000 people and only 10 people dead.

This is why there are going to be 10 billion (an extra 3 billion) people on the planet in less than 40 years.

Do you think we can sustain 10 billion people on this planet in 40 years? And if you do, how about 50 billion people in 100 years?
