It's just that with Vocaloid it felt different... one would say that with so many producers, styles, voice banks, etc... it would remain fresh but lately (for me) the songs have become quite formulaic and stale with their themes, tuning, etc... there is nothing remarkable for me anymore to the point I've stopped looking for new songs... I just wish I wasn't feeling this way neither writing this...

I think what >>10986905 said could be right. Here's the thing:

when you feel burned out on something like that, one way to keep it fresh to you is to not expose yourself to that sort of thing for a while. For vocaloid music, try listening to other music for a while. Take a listen to some of the music that /mu/'s listening to. That's what I did. After a month or two of not listening to a vocaloid album or something, you'll possibly feel burned out from listening to the other music that you were listening to recently and with vocaloid music, you'll feel "fired up" about it now. It's like a big cycle. Just find things to fill the cycle. This is true for a lot of things in life. However, it's not a good idea to be fickle so quickly. Your interests in everything will wear off quickly as a result, killing off the cycle. It's also part of why people should continue to expand their horizons, I suppose.

But yeah, I would agree, though, that I do sometimes feel burned out from listening to vocaloid as well. However, even when I do feel burned out, I still haven't lost my faith. I just don't know about the people in the english side of the vocaloid community. VO is just as shitty as reddit. They all have to think the same way and conform or else they'll be rejected and ignored by the circlejerk there. Facebook groups are pretty boring, only posting pictures and talking about irrelevant things. One of the few cool Vocaloid groups I've met so far is Miku Monday's. I haven't been on there much because of jrharbort (I hate his guts so much), and that I've started to going to bed early now. I really wonder what kind of people are the japanese vocaloid fans are, though...Anyways, I would have to say that exploring the music from /mu/'s side of things has helped me understand what kind of music I'd love to make with Vocaloid. I also drew a lot of inspiration from other things, too, but it was thanks to /mu/ that I found that inspiration as well.

>> No.10987800

poster from >>10987770 here

comment was too long for me to finish up, but anyways, just because you feel burned out doesn't mean you shouldn't let go of your dreams if they are what you really want to accomplish. I believe that it just means you need to keep things fresh to you somehow. If you still want to be able to compose vocaloid music, then go for it. I feel the same way about Vocaloid as well. It helped me with my depression, helped me understand what I really want to do with my life (compose music), and that I met the love of my life...even though she lives on the other side of the country.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much the community matters, on either the English or Japanese side. What draws people in is good music and good art, and things build around that. Like the /jp/ music project, groups find ways to come together, do stuff, and go form there.

What the English vocaloids really need is more music, especially good tracks. Also, before Avanna, there wasn't really a 'good' English vocaloid, which really restricted what the musicians could create. (I haven't worked with GUMI much yet, but her English didn't sound too bad, she could audibly pronounce 'r' and 'l' for starters).

So, really, I wouldn't worry about the community too much. Places like VO, at least when I was there, are headed downward anyways, so as long as we can put out good stuff the community will get and get better.

AVTechno's my favorite Vocaloid producer as well, he's what got me into Vocaloid beyond the basic llevan polka (DixieFlatline is also one of my other firsts) and livetune songs, Zou+ is my favorite. He's good because makes music that would sound bad if performed by a human singer, which is what more producers should strive for.

Thank you guys, I just followed you advice and spent some time in a late-90s nostalgia session (Garbage, Placebo, Radiohead, etc...), I think I will keep at it for a while, funny thing is that the stuff that Vocaloid inspired me to pursue are still extremely enjoyable: I review my Anki decks religiously, I'm almost done with Tae Kim GG and Rosetta Stone and I'm currently drawing a portrait of Marie from Persona 4, (pic related).

Anyway, I just tried 2 songs from my YT subscriptions and I liked them a lot.

Jewel:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDSQZCHUmTg

Time Loop:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWK4nJhYquU

They re-kindled my interest enough to change the CSS of my site (Web Design was another thing that Vocaloid inspired me to learn) I will also update the playlist of my site and perhaps start a new translation later.

Maybe I'm a bit biased but I think reddit can be quite good for recommendations and stay up-to-date with related news, I agree about the FB groups though, it's a damn shame since with so many subscribers they could push the western scene so much more.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice and helping the scene :)

Get さつき が てんこもり albums. The easiest one to find is probably his major debut album, 「人畜無害~さつきがてんこもり」. Check out かめりあ too. I haven't paid attention to him until recently so I don't know if any of his solo albums are that good. He's got a bunch of songs on a lot of different compilations too.

UtsuP is releasing an official bootleg compilation of "self-covers" (セルフカバー) comprising of his first two (now sold out) releases, DOLL EP and DIARRHEA, at VM25 (July 7th).

August 7th, UtsuP will be releasing his first nation-wide distributed album 悪巫山戯 (Warufuzake "Practical Joke"), featuring both old and new songs, Miku only.

Personally glad that he's finally getting some support.

So the Project Diva f demo on PSN is out, for PS3.
I already have the JP copy, so I tried it out anyways, and I can understand the menus now! The weird thing is the lyrics in romanji, not just in english and I doubt there's an option to change it.
Also, in World's End Ballroom(Dancehall? I forgot) they change the opening words slightly to make more sense.

Top right is a Miko compilation album. Dunno where you would get it. The top center is an album by FALL. I know doujincore ripped it a long time ago, so if you find a rip it could possibly be a transcode of that.

Oh, but I can't scan the lyrics pages because I don't have access to a working scanner. They're not in a booklet, they're on individual cards, which would actually make them super easy to scan if I could...
