I feel like most doujin works don't do Haruhi as she's portrayed by Noiji and KyoAni. Sometimes the artist captures her but it's a 1 in 200 thing. But also I'm really picky about my tastes in fanart.

But yeah, cherrypicking wouldn't be such a buzzword if people didn't do it all the time and provoke use of the word. We've had years to forget about all of the crappy, shovelware anime that were made in the 80s/90s. Well sometimes you don't forget, but it's not relevant anymore, whereas a shitty show that airs this season is at least relevant.

It's not that rare, nor was it that common in the 80s. The 80s was characterized by OVAs which had higher budgets and less time constraints. Comparing it to TV anime now is not a fair comparison, and assuming that assuming older anime is more "detailed" is wrong. High quality animation today seems to focus on the fluidity of movement rather than realism, but you can see the work put into details by the upper-tier studios. Madhouse, last I saw, is still putting out "realistic" styles.

>> No.10930505

>most modern anime is pretty lackluster.
So was older anime. It's a medium that prioritizes narrative over art quality; this has been the standard established by the first studios and is challenged by few studios (e.g. Ghibli).
