The eyes need to be bigger. I'm not trying to force a stylistic change on your doll, but if you make the eyeholes as realistic in size as possible, the doll face will look funny. Like those Americana classic dolls you see old women in the Midwest fawning over. NOT good.

I'd just change up the backdrop. White skin on white backdrop is kinda dull. Maybe even more important is distancing your subject from the background. That creates a nice depth of field effect. (Sharp subject, blurry background)

As for lighting, check out the portrait lighting tutorials on youtube, etc.

Yeah maybe need different kind of backdrop, something little more blue? And also I will look up on youtube about lightning and blurry background.

Thank, she was just a standard Aoi doll until I replaced her wigs with Straight Shaggy style with cinnamon gold color. I had never thought that she will look good with her new wig.

Alright, forgive me for being NEW and all and yes I read the FAQ.

How exactly in the hell does one order a CUSTOM doll meaning custom clothes, custom appearance, etc. I don't see any "custom" ordering options on either Volks nor Azone, nor how someone would even go about doing so besides contacting customer service.

I guess I'll answer my own question then.. Perhaps I can even help some of you who were too shy to ever ask this nagging question I've had for a long time.

It looks like the answer simply is, You don't. What you *can* do is make your own "custom" doll out of various parts and then get someone to custom make clothes for it.

There are site(s)? like this: http://www.thefairys.net/main.htm which say they do overseas orders for clothes so, I think that's my answer.

If anyone else has any input, please let me/us know. I've been waiting for Volks/Azone to make a nice doll of my favorite girl for a long time now, but I suppose I'll just have to make her myself.

It's unlikely that you'll be able to commission an entire doll. More likely, you'll need to commission the face and clothes. The body, head, and wig will all need to be purchased by you.

Forums like DoA and dollfiedreams.com have artists that you can ask for face-ups and probably seamtresses as well.

I really don't know much about dolls, so I have a question.

Is there a huge difference between glass and acrylic eyes, and are they ever compatible on the same doll? Say I'm looking at this kid delf doll from luts, and it comes with some acrylic eyes. Can I later switch those to glass eyes, as long as they're the same size?

Is there a reason to prefer glass over acrylic (or the opposite) in the first place?

All eyes are interchangable. You can even size up or down- down a size gives a more mature look, up a size gives a more innocent look typically. As far as eye types, urethanes are the nicest really. Urethanes have an unmmatched sheen and catch light better. They're very expensive. Then glass are mid-range, very pretty but usually lack the depth and detail of urethanes. They shine and look more alive than acrylics. Acrylics have, typically, a cheesy printed iris that has 'detail' but poor shine.

The ones in your picture are glass, by the way. And I made you a comparison. None of these eyes are mine.

Volks USA (and International) have almost no doll selection, unless you have your eyes on a standard model. Limited dolls need to be bought from Yahoo Japan auctions, Mandarake, or other third-party retailers.
