It was surprisingly boring.

Basically they sent so many state school kids there every year, so they could experience a few days of life at a top university. The rooms were tiny and had shared shower/toilet areas (so you had to get up super early), the buildings were falling apart, all the staff and students were unbelievably pompous.

A lot of the places did look really neat, though. There was a big hall we ate breakfast in every day. It was neat eating corn flakes in a room that liked like part of a cathedral, with pillars and arches and paintings. Plus the surrounding area was nice. All the shops and stuff had an indoorsy feel to them, as though you were in a big shopping centre.

We mostly stayed in one college (Trinity?) so maybe the others were different, but we visited a couple of them and they felt the same.

I went to the anime club on campus once because I imagined it couldn't be as bad as everyone says it is, I was so wrong. We watched a decent show but the entire time was filled with people yelling out jokes and other memes trying to get people to laugh. It was so annoying that it was like being in a room full of /a/ browsers when trying to watch something, plus the room was really hot and uncomfortable.

Maybe this is a British thing, but whenever I think of students, I think of people in cardigans who like indie rock music and wouldn't dare play Touhou without some semblance of irony.
