If you want the latter go look up anime drawing tutorials.

If you're serious about it and wanna draw well then I really recommend learning basic anatomy and then learn how to exaggerate and stylize. I know how fucking retarded that sounds for wanting to draw lolis, but hear me out. If you copy other artists anime style without knowing why you're drawing it like that, it'll always end up looking bland and generic. I fell into that trap when I was younger, drawing like my animays and mangas without understanding what I was doing and just copying, then I practiced anatomy and then went back to anime and it felt 10 times better cause I understood what I was drawing, even when it was a loli. You don't have to be perfect, just have a basic understanding of form.

I'm not saying it's mandatory, either, I'm sure a lot of artists got good at animu just by drawing animu, but it's easy to get into bad habits. If you're not too serious about it then just practice copying artists you like, I guess. It doesn't require much investment that way.

I think it's best to look at pictures of anime styles you like and try to copy them and also look at real people and learn their porportions..

Even if you do a tutorial, you're ultimately just drawing in someone's style their way, so trying to copy lots of styles should give the same experience while also giving you the much more needed experience of drawing a lot and training your hands to do what you want and your mind to draw what you see.

For this thread, following this should be good enough though.

They hired a "user interaction architect" who overhauled parts of the interface and it's definitely better than it was a few years ago.

There are still a few niggles, however. For one thing, it really needs more layer options like Photoshop has, rather than just the usual blending modes (Multiply, Burn, etc.). An Outline one would be nice. Outlining text is seriously a pain in GIMP. You either do Alpha to Selection -> Select -> Grow... -> Edit -> Fill with FG Color (making sure you're on a layer behind the text), or do the same with Text to Path (which I think ensures you get a vectored selection). In both cases you can't edit the text without having to repeat the process.

There are plug-ins for these things, but there shouldn't have to be. Fix it, GIMP devs!

There were many months of inactivity but this month was pretty productive, got about 4000 lines of code done in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Proportions are one thing, but one of the factors that make a drawing so compelling is the illusion of weight and balance. You can study anatomy all day long, however, if you don't have the know-how to draw successful form, gesture, and the illusion of weight, you can't even make a figure standing straight up in front of you look or feel "right". True artists are illusionists. I gave up a long time ago.

If you plan to only draw one thing, then be prepared to spend many hours of your time going nowhere in terms of artistic ability. You'll just be copying other people and always coming up with substandard drawings that will please no one but yourself. This is what I've done for years, so trust me. If you truly wan't to become an artist, there are no shortcuts, it takes years, and you'll have to draw crap you would never consider drawing on your own. It's the only way to break out of habits and from drawing the same thing over and over again. I know I have very poor artistic skills, and I may not be the most credible person to say these things, but I have taken my few art classes and have been down that road. It's on my mind all day for some time now to become good at drawing and I don't think that will change in the near future.

I started doodling a little more than half a year ago at the age of 25 and everything looked like scribbles from a 3 year old child. The anatomy of my characters is still terrible but what improved a lot is that I can now draw smooth and straight lines without too much trouble. It's sometimes demotivating but not as much as when I started.
I will now try to use real photographs as a reference for drawing bodies but I'll continue drawing anime-styled faces.

I practice drawing every day. I can do pretty elaborate stuff but it takes so long and there are so many mistakes I have to correct on the way, so I decided to just start practicing poses instead. This is a great thread. It seems relevant to mention that whenever I cum, I do it hands-free, by hugging a body pillow and looking at my own pencil drawings of underaged flat-chested loli shrine maidens. I tried to get into drawing awhile back; I even kept at it for several months.

I fucking loathed everything I drew. Every. Single. Thing. It was never cute, pretty, correct, neat, interesting, no matter how hard I tried it looked like a five-year-old's first attempt at making an image on the computer. I started doodling in my notes just to practice some more, and that just made studying all the more frustrating because now all the shitty faces and heads were there to remind me of how shitty I was at drawing. I'd hate the drawings I'd make AS I was making them.

Sometimes, a few rare times, I'd start to feel mildly satisfied with something I was working on. Then later, I'd find even a basic sketch on the internet that made my best efforts look like absolute trash. I'd look back at my picture again, and it WAS absolute trash. Everything I tried to make was trash.

I eventually stopped drawing altogether, and became happier for it. No more ugly faces and poses in my notes as I studied, no more dealing with frustration for hours on end as I struggled (and failed) to make the most basic of lines look not-shit, none of that. I was free from this horrid stress.

I have never heard of the 'Western Artist Curse', and I have never owned a DeviantArt account. I also do not own a graphics tablet of any kind, but there is one in the basement of a library I frequent that I might be able to steal if I tried. I also willingly accept your criticism, though--I know that this drawing, in particular, though I took quite a bit of time on it, probably lacks a real 'soul' or 'life' to it, in the eyes of many. That being said, I find it very difficult to talk with objectivity about art--we are all just sharing our own opinions, after all.

Anyways, though, I do feel that I may have improved somewhat since that drawing. After all, I am now able to cum hands-free to my own pencil drawings, something I wasn't able to do before.
