Read serious books and you'll learn what suffering is. Not because they'd be especially dull, which they often are, but because they reveal how the world around you operates. You'll also learn what's wrong with you.

ew. n. wood sucked. i don't get how it's his most popular novel, even the author himself is flustered. must be twilight teens

Can we assign a name to the guy who keeps going around in every thread talking about how he read Little Boy and uncovered sacred truths of life (in the most insufferably pretentious posting style possible, too - I think he's also the XDDDDDDD guy)

>> No.10895140

His best work is definitely After Dark.

Wind-up Bird Chronicle is also decent.

Everything else is shit.

What's bad about Alice or 19Q4? I was actually thinking of reading Hard-boiled wonderland next afer n.wood.

>> No.10895188

>>10895131

norwegian wood was nice, nothing spectacular. a cute love story at best.

wind up bird chronicle though, now that shit is awesome.

>> No.10895196

>>10895170
19q4 severely lacks substance and it just becomes a extremely bland book, no twists, nothing spectacular leading up towards a rather boring end.

I have not read the other one, however I would definitely advise Wind-up bird for your next read.

Yeah, I thought so. It's the common assent as a decent novel of his from what I've seen here so it's decided.

I can tell you I'm not the "XDDDDD" guy. I can also tell you that I'm not the only one who has read that book or has mentioned it on /jp/. It's really good; you should read it if you're interested in otaku culture. There aren't any sacred truths. It's just a very in-depth look at Japanese subculture, very much like Database Animals.

Please don't be angry with me. I can't really help how I type because that's how I organize my thoughts and I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

I can only find this: http://www.gwern.net/docs/2005-little-boy

There are little bits here and there on the site. It's fairly difficult to find, but I borrowed it from my local library.

It's from an old Japanese pop song.
