I use Picasa on a TrueCrypt drive but FenrirFS looks cool too. I may have to try that.

I absolutely could not have any control of my pics without tags (how do you sort a pic into folders if there are two characters?). Picasa writes tags straight to the image files which is cool.

I dump them all into my "unsorted toohoos" folder.

Though I've got a Touhou folder in which I organize pictures by artist but I'm usually too lazy to organize them like that.

If I had as many pictures as some of you nerds do I'd probably go with some kind of tagging system.

Computer
- Most Touhou pictures divvied up into folders based on character or faction. My Rumia folder is further organized into subfolders based on specific categories (alternate outfits, eating food, doujinshi, etc.)
- Group pictures that do not prominently exhibit any one character or faction get sent into a group folder
- Characters/factions do not get dedicated folders until I have at least three pictures of them.
- Canon volumes (WaHH, CoLA) get their own folders, however official illustrations by themselves are filed with the other single images
- Non-Touhou pictures are filed in folders according to interest. Interests are based off of 4chan boards. For example, all of my MC Ride pictures go into the /mu/ folder
- Uncategorizable pictures go in a /b/ folder
- Porn has its own separate folder, however I am subject to frequent spurts of moral indignancy, meaning that I often delete my H folder in whole or in part. As of now I have only a few dozen misc. smut files

Phone
- SERIOUSLY cute pictures go in a cute pictures folder
- All others go in a general pictures folder
- Content of both is managed and pruned regularly, and is limited to ~150 files overall to avoid clutter

I save images with their Pixiv filenames too, and I recently came up with a "tagging" system that solves the problem of not changing the filename or file contents. Basically I have my pictures in a loose directory (I'm thinking of sorting them by character) and then I create symbolic links to them in these directories. Of course I can make multiple symlinks to the same file, so a picture of Alice might be linked in actions/smile, character/alice, clothes/yellow_hair, clothes/no_hat, numbers/single, and setting/gensokyo.

Now it's pretty easy to use the standard programs to, say, search for images where a group of characters are smiling, or all group images without Flandre.
Of course, I'm nowhere near done. I have thousands of images, and this current hierarchy represents a few hundred of them. I definitely need to add more directories, and I'm debating whether or not to have "negatives" like "no_hat".

I have a base folder, and inside it I have a folder for each game, household or character pairing.

So far I have manually collected 19.799 pictures (not including manga or any H-works) saved in 23 different folders, occupying a total of 9,66Gb.

I check for duplicates using "alldup", and rename misnamed files using "ant renamer". I manually sort pictures into each corresponding folder. I backup this folder every 2 months into an external HDD on a hidden, encrypted partition.

Right now I have to sort over 400 pictures that I saved in the last 3 weeks...

>>10890183
Touhou manga (lewd and non-lewd) sums a total of about 1200-1500 folders occupying
somewhat about 27Gb, so the total Touhou doujinshi may round that number. May be a bit less maybe due to folder layout. Porn may be like 4-5Gb.

So, I sort Manga in 2 categories Touhou, and anything else. I sort them by Year and by Month.

Example:
The "2009" folder has 12 subfolders called "01 - Jan" "02 - Feb" "03 - Mar", etc. So I can find things easily and sorting by name suddenly becomes really useful.

All this is kind of a joy, and a torture at the same time. I can't stop.
And let's not start about HDD defrag.

touhou isnt anywhere near big for me so no further organization. my pokemon and ragnarok online folders are probably my largest so they get further classification like main chatacters/playable, villains, pokemon, etc.

Then I have a folder for pairings. Which goes like this.

Matching Stages/(game)
Same Stages/(game)
Heroines

Group folders have groups of 3 characters or more. A bunch of folders goes like this.

If there's more, it just sits in the base. The group folder is further categorized with folders like:

I usually only make an artist folder if they have a significant amount of work I saved or want to save of if their art strikes me significantly in quality or content.

For example, not Touhou, but for Haga Yui has drawn a lot of Disgaea images. I put all of his Disgaea images inside of his artist folder instead of my Disgaea folder.
