Does anyone else think they missed a good opportunity with Nogizaka46? I like their songs a lot actually, but I feel like they're a bit of a let down when one thinks of the original concept behind them. For being AKB's "rival group", they sell less than all of the other sister groups (HKT is just starting out, so they'll surpass Nogizaka in a single or two) and, since they don't take part in anything like the election or request hour, they just seem irrelevant.

This is not a bad thing actually. For those that hate the concurrency system/sister group members in AKB singles and vice versa, Nogizaka's isolation from the main group is very appealing. Most Nogizaka fans weren't supportive when Matsumura said she wanted to run in AKB's election.

As for the election, Nogizaka has 16nin no Principal where you vote for members to participate in musical stages. Compared to AKB's general election, their current election is very dynamic and unpredictable, placing more emphasis on stage ability rather than popularity, with both Shiraishi and Matsumura(top two of the group in terms of handshake popularity) having completely dropped out of selection while unders that never got into senbatsu even once were regularly performing on stage. Looking at how one of their founding concepts is being realized, I wouldn't say the group was a let down at all.

The quality of members is high in Nogizaka (both looks and talent wise) too and that might mean that they lack the rough, girl next door feel that works so well in AKB. I think a big part of HKT is the feeling of AKB48's early days, which simply can't be evoked by Nogizaka's more polished image.
I still really like them, but I'll admit I don't feel as passionately about the girls.

Compare his treatment of the girls to the Bad Boys. You rarely if ever see the latter make feigned advances on the girls besides occasional acchan oshi or mariko oshi stuff. Takada Junji would regularly hit on many of the girls and that's just what we saw on air.

He is quite a big shot in the comedy world and Japan generally finds him funny (see his absolutely ridiculous appearance in the batsu games) but since they were producing an idol show I doubt their target audience would find him flirting with/harassing their idol entertaining. That is indeed shitty, but that happens on repeated occasions in general. Like, one time they had these two buffed athletes in the show (instantly skipped the episode) or another time they had Maeda and Mariko fawning over Robert Pattinson.

Personally at least, stuff like that makes me feel much more shittier than pure Takada hugging a member in distress, or spouting a few humorous harmless comments. I actually think this "ojiisan" character fits him quite good and was an incredible funny part of the show, and him missing is a serious and severe loss.

Also, does nobody have any actual info on what happened behind the scenes? The japanese are usually much more avid about such rapid changes, aren't they? I'm sure they'll have covered up something. Not that it's important enough to dig out, just saying.

On that first one the girls weren't being hit on by the boxers. The only noticeable thing was a joke made by Yuko on a skit where she gives one a marriage registration but that "boxer" was being just Kyoto. The boxers were there for their little sister who is an Acchan Oshi. There was nothing flirty about that episode at all.
As for Robert only Acchan was going crazy over him. Mariko didn't seem to care. It is later brought up in a different episode where Mariko jokes Robert was paying more attention to her than Acchan.

This. You might want to consider that they film TONS of episodes in a single day so they could have tried him out for 1 or 2 and figured it wasn't working so they phased him out near the end. It's not really that surprising so I'm not sure what inside info you're looking for. I can tell you that no one really gave a shit when it was first airing.

I don't know, maybe AKB wasn't popular enough yet for enough people to care, maybe they actually hated Takada and were just glad to see him go. Saw this while browsing the official DEStube channel a couple hours ago. Another "get to know the members" segment?

Which groups have their own, weekly if possible, variety show? I know about AKB and SKE, I tried to look it up for the others now but that's becoming more of a pain than expected.

Apparently HKT and NMB had some short running shows, any others I should check out? I want to get more into the other side groups, especially the one whichever got the most young girls.

Now there's also a "docking 48" listed for NMB48 in which supposedly 16 members are appearing on kansai tv since 2011, but there seems to be little to no mention of it, let alone videos. So I don't have very high hopes for that one.

Paruru are thrice as cute as European idol and thrice as adorable for that matter too. Anything a singer can perform, a Paruru can perform better. I'm pretty sure a Paruru could easily outperform a geniunly talented singer in a single concert.

She finally got a role in the 2nd Principal stage today after 9 rounds of getting nothing(she never made it during the entire 1st Principal). She got the sixth maid role(maid roles are awarded based on the difference in number of votes, sixth meaning she barely got in), not Yoko, the role she was running for, but it's still quite amazing considering how hotly contested the role was. I read that she cried during the mini-live after the stage on the 7th round, and in the dressing room when the results for the 9th(yesterday's stage) was announced.

Her impressive persistence really paid off today. Reminded me of that dodgeball part in Nogidoko where she kept on fighting despite being the only person left on young team against 5 on adult team. Hope she gets to play as Yoko in a future stage.

And in case you're wondering about the double Yoko in round 8, Ikuta got it. Ikoma was given the Sawamura role because nobody ran for it.

I have my doubts about the whole model of overseas groups just recreating AKB singles. It's not like AKB's success mostly stems from their songs, so I don't really get why they can't get their own original songs that can help develop a unique image.

What is the point of members graduating? It seems like a pretty horrible marketing move to let someone who is still making money leave the group. Popular members graduating are a key part of why Morning Musume declined. We even see this with Acchan's graduation, as AKB48's sales have decreased. They'll go down again when Tomochin leaves, even if by a lesser amount.

Why does management let (or force in some instances) graduations occur when it takes popular members out of the group, thus decreasing the popularity and profitability of the group?

They are widely accepted and they are considered an integral part of the *48 family. Basically, they're just an extension of AKB. There used to be some people who hated the fact that girls from sister groups can participate in AKB singles, but it's pretty much expected to happen now. I don't think you should be choosing an oshimen, as once a girl comes a long that just "clicks" with you, you'll end up switching over. Though it's up to you. I was also trying to "decide" who my oshi was, after I had watched all of AKBINGO there were some girls I kind of liked but none of them made me feel special. Just watch a bunch of AKB stuff, along with NMB since it seems like you've taken a bit of a liking to them too. Definitely check out SKE as well. The only risk you run by watching all this stuff so late in the game is you might find yourself drawn to someone like, say, Acchan in AKBingo only to find out she's already graduated.

That said, be careful with who becomes your oshimen. When I was a wee AKB lad, I almost made Kasai my oshimen at the start. I dodged a bullet there.

After 10 days of 15 performances, Nogizaka46's 16nin no Principal deux in Tokyo's Akasaka ACT Theater finally comes to an end, to be continued in Osaka's Umeda Art's Theater at the end of the month.

Nothing about new 2nd gen members in both of today's stage. There's still Sugiyama Yuma and Sagara Iori, but only 13 lined up on stage at the end. Today being the end of 15 performances, management probably decided the atmosphere was too volatile to do so.

The voting results from these performances are interesting to say the least. Ikuta is pretty much the queen of Nogizaka's stage. Noujou is tied with Takayama, as with Eto and Fukagawa. Hatanaka finally gets a role along with Tomato after switching to Sawamura. It's nice seeing some unders beating Matsumura.

So... will the management actually make a single senbatsu out of this? I don't want any 2nd gen in the 7th single.
