Hey guys I have a problem, maybe some of you as well. I love my dakimakura but if I sleep with it my arm falls asleep. Pretty much every time. I've had to finally put her away because it's painful and I doubt it's very healthy for your nerves to constantly be running out of oxygen like that.

When you sleep daki-less, do you usually sleep on your back? My guess is you have a mattress that is too firm. No matter what people tell you, that's not 'good for your back'-- you need a mattress that can conform to you. When you lay on your side, the weight of your body presses on your arm and your bed doesn't have enough give, so it doesn't help disperse your weight, or sink in in places to lighten the pressure. I always sleep with a pillow like a daki and never had a problem until I moved to Asia and their beds are so fucking hard here.

My suggestion is a thick foam mattress topper, or a new mattress.

I've personally slept with a number of different dakimakura textiles between two-way tricot, peach skin, and satin (which is exceedingly similar to silk based ones).

I have to say that peachskin is the best to sleep with overall cause the silk and satin retain a large amount of body heat and don't breathe very well which causes discomfort especially in the summer. Two-way tricot is nice but I always feel like I'm going to scratch if my nails or hands and feet aren't smooth as they tend to get dry and crack.

Which, again, overall leads me to using peachskin the most. Which has led me to buying legit versions of some dakis to use as wall decorations and then just get peachskin bootlegs to sleep with. There's also some peace of mind knowing that I'm not soiling or wearing down a rarer more expensive dakimakura compared to a $40 bootleg that I can replace it with after a few years of heavy use.

To be fair in some cases you are correct. But at certain events cons or other public events you sign a clause in which staff and others reserve the right to photograph you and most often people expect you to be polite about it. I've had people want to simply take pictures of me before simply because of a shirt, hat, instrument, or simply because they enjoyed my company. Most people wouldn't call any of that "attention whoring" nor would I say I'm objectifying myself or my clothing.

Sometimes a physical representation can help give off a more realistic or genuine feeling. It's difficult to describe I guess. But while I do agree that many of these pictures are making a mockery of the whole thing, especially western fanbases, I feel there is a legitimate and acceptable reason to do so. There are many pictures of asians bringing them in public non-ironically without the intention of garnering public attention or to abase the hobby or others who enjoy it. So I don't feel that it's good to generalize and have a knee jerk reaction to it on the whole.

Thing is, peach skin is as soft as 2way; the problems are:
1) it's thicker, heavier and breathes less
2) it doesn't stretch; you have no idea how much more comfort this adds.
3) doesn't hold colour as well, both at printing and in the long run.

So yeah, at around half the price and still decent quality yet higher meterial resistance, peach skin is definitely the cost/perfomance winner.
But I wouldn't bother using a top grade daki stuffing to only use a peach skin cover; if you want the best quality 2way is where it's at. Of course it's more fragile so requires extra care, but if you're not a slob it's nothing to fret over.

I always felt the hate towards "otacool" to be similar to long time comic book fans hating movies and remakes for bringing in an ignorant casual crowd and making it so anyone can claim to be a "superhero fan" without actually having any grasp of the characters or universes outside of the movies.

They are marketed to hit a wide broad audience where they don't need to invest much time into the hobby to feel validated in their opinion. Are often obnoxious, and end up having a majority of conversations be very shallow and not have very much depth that a more hardcore fan would enjoy. And more than anything it actively lowers the worth of tight-knit communities of the general fanbase because it explodes with newcomers who are just getting into it because it's popular and then drop it as soon as it isn't. This causes a lot of time in trying to educate and help these people into the fanbase and then get burned for it later.

If you've ever hung out at like a comic book and games shop you'd understand. It's really sad to see and it really puts a damper on the atmosphere of the place.

Danny Choo is just a case of a guy being in the right place at the right time. You're right most of his shit is inane and to any kind of more hardcore fan won't get very much (if at all) substance out of the shit he does.

He caters and markets stuff to the LCD plain and simple. He gets paid for it and doing anything that wouldn't attract interest from the sheep that willingly throw money at his shit or places like J-List wouldn't help in getting his paychecks signed so why bother?
