Hey, /jp/. I'm currently trying to learn Japanese, as I see myself having a very possible future career in Japan. In addition to that, I want to be able to watch anime and read manga in Japanese. I got Rosetta Stone and I'm studying a kana table.

The question for you is: am I on the right track? Is there a faster and better way to learn Japanese and, for now, kana?

Pic related, it's me after I learn Japanese.

Rosetta Stone isn't good for shit. Download anki and one of the various different kanji decks, like the /a/ one or the Kanjidamage one. If you check for the daily japanese thread on /a/, or on foolz archive you should find links and help for installing anki and how to add the decks to it. Learning the vocab and kanji is imperative to learning Japanese.

You'll also want to memorize katakana and hiragana asap. There are anki decks for them as well.

They're mad at you because you made a thread in the wrong board. They got more mad afterwards because you were confrontational about it.

I used Heisig's "Remembering the Kana" for hiragana/katakana. Took me 2 days to memorize writing/recognition of them all. Way easy.

I tried Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji" and thought it was shit, too wordy, only teaches meanings--not readings/vocabulary and it has a large focus on writing the kanji. Who gives a fuck about writing? You will ultimately only ever type the shit anyway.

lrnj.com's Slime Forest Adventure is nice, it's a great flash card system that uses SRS like Anki and teaches grammar, verb forms, meanings, on'yomi/kun'yomi readings, vocabulary, and verb conjugation all in one go. Ignore the terrible game and graphics that it is packaged in, the heart of it is the flashcard system.

For a good grammar guide, I would recommend Tae Kim's Guide To Japanese Grammar (google it)

Your welcome, now suck my weird gay dick.
