You have to understand that traditional Chinese is much more advanced system than Roman alphabet. I believe in future we might all be using Chinese writing system because it is more accurate, maybe more complicated but it can deliver meaning much better than outright Roman alphabet.

Roman alphabet is much younger compared to Chinese writing system anyway. Roman alphabet is not perfect at all just much more simplified. But in the end Chinese writing system is much more conventional and advanced than Roman alphabet could ever be. It would be sole insanity to try to learn Roman alphabet and apply it on everything since it is just simple but less efficient.

I happen to be an expert on this subject.

Japan has a problem with 汉字 because they adopted the system directly from China, along with a huge set of basic civilization words, which are known as on-readings (example: 图书馆 = tushuguan = toshokan). Then some words have "native" kun-readings. Then they have specific name readings. I recall some 汉字having 8 different readings not even always depending on context. In that regard it indeed would be better if nippons just ceased to use that multilayered mess, but keep reading.

Homonymes: Japan actually doesn't have that many homonyme words, it just looks like it because they take the first syllable of a word, give it a corresponding 汉字 with on-reading and then fill the blanks with hiragana. That's a illusion of a lot of homonymes, not reality. As a bonus, having a symbol telling the exact continuity for the word makes reading shit tons faster. Reading hiragana-only is a pain. You can consider that kanji as combination of capitalization & spacing. Japan also has a pitched accent semi-tonal system similar to Swedish, which further gives edge in spoken language.

汉字 in general: composed of 214 different radicals, out of which 40 are common. Learning radicals makes it easy as shit to learn 汉字, because you don't need retarded mnemonics since radicals are automatic mnemonics. Best example: 宿 has literally hundred people under roof by radicals, easy to guess it has something to do with commodations.

Now my anime has finished downloading, 再见

I just have to add to that, that anglo-saxons ignore that completely for some odd reason, making their japanese sound incorrect. No exceptions.
