The only problem with people I had in Japan, it was the cops telling us not to take photos at certain places. Other than that, the people were very nice in Japan and they bend over backwards to make sure we are alright. My suggestion is to just know the customs, take your time to soak up the experience and speak the language to some degree (basic Japanese 101) and you will do fine.
