Can someone explain Osakans to me?

Are they country folk, or city people? Or some hybrid of both?

Is this three minute cartoon even accurate?

Osaka is like Tokyo's rival. The metropolitan area there is 18 million people, they definitely aren't hicks. The kansai dialect is like the second most spoken dialect in Japan, so it is the dialect that you see most often in anime that isn't the standard dialect. It's simply commonly localised as a southern accent for Americans, because it is just the easiest thing to do, not because they are hicks. "Hick" dialects are the less common ones you don't usually hear in anime.

>> No.10724872

>>10724758
There's a phrase that goes "if Tokyo is where the shots are called, then Osaka is where the money is made". It's sort of like California if Tokyo was NYC except with the sterotypes swapped; Osakans are stereotyped as having intense regional pride, a strong accent and also being somewhat annoying, hyperactive and pushy while also being less than moral and caring way too much about money.

You take elevator on the left side when you don't walk in Kansai because it was the region for merchants.

In all other japan it's the right side because this way you could use your katana, but in kansai it was left side so you could protect your money pouch.
So osakan are linked with money, buying selling.

Osakan are also like, the only people to openly use their dialects, all others are shy about it when they go to tokyo and try to hide their dialects.
So that links with osakan with being boastful/prideful.

Also osakan are more "friendly" as in, overly friendly with stranger from a japanese pov.
That makes them a bit coarse but not harmful. Not refined but not assholes.

And lastly kansai is the capital of tsukkomi. Any kansai resident always speaks in tsukkomi and they are all funpersons.
That makes kansai resident the super-funny guy.

So to sum it up, Osakan are good with money and overly friendly, makes coarse but funny remarks, and are boastful and loud but don't mean any harm and will gladly use their skill to help you overcome your shyness and get better at bargaining.

Also they're from the truCAPITAL edo or some bullshit.
And the empror is actually a descendant of the southern family and therefore is not the legitimate emperor.
