Probably the most important thing for me to care for my dakimakura (and myself, incidentally) has been to shave every single day. I noticed that my most recent ones have had far less dead fibers due to me not rubbing my facial hair against them.

Most places that you ordered your cover from will also sell the stuffing for it. If you import it with the help of a proxy service, they generally sell very good pillows as well, but the shipping is expensive due to the size.

All the pillows sold by the companies that sell covers seem to be really expensive, but I don't think i'd have luck getting a proper size if I tried walmart. That and there would most likely be a quality issue.

if you're in the u.s., want a cheap, good, super pomfy one, just order from united pillow. just get the 60 inch in length body pillow. i got one for like $40 shipped instead of the like $50+ from japan before shipping. they are super, super pomfy though, some people really like that, i do, you might not.
