I personally think Higanbana is where Ryukishi excels. That is, small, contained horror stories, with a bunch of new and old characters each time, and HUGE reversals of situation at the end of each stories you will likely never expect.

Umineko feels a bit weaker, imo. After episode 2 I was pretty bored of the human cast outside Battler's family. Chiru came with magic battles and absurdly awesome characters like Dlanor and Erika. The WWII story in episode 7 was incredibly romantic and tragic and Bern was awesome. Episode 8 was a nice closure after episode 7 with the magic battles and Beato jumping out of the boat was great. The problem I had was that It went on even when I thought I was at the end. Battler is also an annoying faggot.

Higurashi has a smaller cast and they're also pretty great. Fascinating lore, K1 is hilarious, and Takano is great. One of my favorite scenes is when k1 meets Takano in the rain in episode 3.

But yes, I loved both series, K1 was great, Takano was great, Battler was mostly stupid and annoying but had a few good moments. Higanbana had great moments, sure, but some parts annoyed me like the first story.

RGD is indeed cool, but the character designs don't really fit the setting, and they lack a certain something found in Higurashi and Umineko.

Ideally I think R07 should take a break from writing and travel places to get new ideas. It's slightly unfortunate that he probably peaked at Higurashi, though. I'm also amazed that no one's made a cg patch for the series.

I also watched the motion graphic for chapter 5 and it was pretty great and almost as good as their video for Umineko episode 7.

Well, I didn't read the next RGD, so I don't know if he changes or does some actions redeeming him in the end. But in the first novel, he acts like a charming, a little playboy, professional opportunist. He only accepted to help the girls because he gained something, that is money, boobies, and a foothold in the organized crime. He used them thoroughly and the second the girls became more of a pain than a gain, he betrayed them without second thoughts.

He's only vaguely sympathetic to the reader because this bastard was on the girl side for a long time.

Is character connected to their memories from a past world? Are they the same or are there multiple existences of each character? When a chapter ends do they all come together to restart the tale? I just want to see the character atone for their sins from past worlds so they can truly be friends who trust each other. If they never remember what they've done wouldn't that be running away? If that's how it is I don't see how anyone can be satisfied with it.

Why was Watanagashi-hen the saddest episode?

Two little girls were SLOWLY tortured to death by a scary grown up, Mion became a shadow of herself, Shion went batshit insane, Ooishi was most likely blamed for K1's death even though he was nice enough to buy him some porn, Takano probably killed herself at some point in the future and everyone in the village survived, including the hearybroken Sonozaki family. That's fucking sad and disturbing.

It was the most tragic episode. And scary as fuck too. Shion's trollcalls + Fascism...

It's either one of these two things:

-They were kidnapped and didn't go to school the next day. That night, after 24 hours in the torture chamber, everyone began to search for them.

-Keiichi was worried about Rika and tried to call her shortly after she was kidnapped. She didn't answer the phone and the search began that night.

I think it's the latter, but I'm not sure.
