What TDCG is: 3D Custom Girl, a program for creating a character and posing it. Has a light sex sim. Using MMD (MikuMikuDance) you can create your own animations as well as simply expand creative potential.

Over half of the ones I look at look like shit to me since they only explain about half the shit they mention in the tutorial.

So I tried out MMD today and found to my great surprise that it can render 3D videos.

That would be insanity unless you're working with a fairly low poly model, and even then would be more difficult than needed. That is most likely why you can't find decent tutorials. I really advise learning a better program's rigging tools.

It's really not that bad, especially if you use the translated PMDe. I first read a simple tutorial for how to rig some cat ears to a model's head, and from that (along with trial and error) I learned how to rig other things. It's just a matter of practice and using your instincts.

I'm saying it's that bad because it lacks tools and functionality like a blur tool or a good(key word) weight smoothing tool, good vertex/face masking, real-time previews for changes in weights(TransformView is not real time), and due to many other factors which make it a nightmare compared to weight painting in a decent program. I wouldn't be saying this if I hadn't used it myself. If you insist you like it, I won't stop you, of course, and best of luck.

And yes, I agree simple tasks like cat ears which aren't bending(or bend linearly) aren't bad in PMDE. Without going into detail, it's when you're rigging a character with interacting joints that the lack of tools and functionality becomes painful. This is assuming you're not fine with jagged weights and want a clean result.

I don't mean to be persistent but I know it's nothing but trouble from hindsight. At any rate, I can only say good luck if you're rigging a human.

How many gigs in total do I need to download for MMD?

I'm just going to be an idiot for a second here and ask, how/where do I download some of the newer mods? Let's say for example I'm looking for XPC03608 so I googled it and got a result at 3dcustom.net, but I don't have a download key (couldn't find it in the pastebin).

I know I'm asking to be spoonfed here, but I just picked up TDCG and this is all rather new to me.

The AdultShader is nice to play around with at first, but being shiny and red is not that wonderful. If you want shading to look good, learn how to use a shader with normal maps or multiple light sources, or an anime-style shader like ToonDX.
