Bikes like those are just universal Japanese motorcycles. From the 60s bikes from Japanese manufacturers all more or less looked like that. Suzuki and Honda still make retro styled bikes, the TU250x and CB1100, respectively. On CL you can buy older bikes like that for a few hundred dollars. CB750s were amazing when they first came out and are still a classic today, can be had for under 2k easily, and can be had for about 600 but you're going to have to do a bit of work.

I couldn't tell you though. Around here the smaller the engine, the less you need to ride it on the road. It's something like this: Less than 50cc, you don't need a motorcycle license, 100cc or less and you get a restricted license allowing you to drive bikes less than 100cc, and anything greater than 100cc you get an unrestricted license. Anything with a displacement smaller than 90cc also don't need emission testing. Most bikes less than 100cc will either be old or cheap knockoffs, or some sort of scooter. A lot of people start on 250s and outgrow them quickly, so they end up selling them. The sweet spot seems to be between 450cc and 750cc for most people.

At the moment the bike I ride is 90cc and it forces you to drive pretty conservatively. It's great on gas though, insurance is dirt cheap, and having a manual clutch and gears is still fun enough for it to not be boring to ride. It won't win any races though, it maxes out at around 50mph with me riding it at 165lbs.

Huh? This bike is like a damn couch. I rode this bike North Carolina from South Florida, nearly 1500 miles both ways and not once did my ass hurt or wrists cramp.

As far as the convenience goes, if you're simply cruising around town a 250cc would be perfect. Has just enough power to get your ass going. I have a piece of shit 2000 Ninja 250 that I bought for $500 that I ride as well when doing shit around town because the god damn thing will run off the smell of an oily rag.

Some bikes like that are actually pretty cheap. That second one, the SV650, is about $2000 used give or take a few hundred. Insurance is also cheap, because it's not considered a sport bike. Good on gas too. Usually bikes like that have engines from sportbikes tuned more for riding in cities, with more comfortable upright seating and handlebars. Usually no plastic fairings to scratch or shatter if you were to drop it too.

I'm hoping to sell my car to get one this summer, getting pretty excited.

Okay, well I can except that for a few reasons, but thwy don't look like American negros and two to say they're the same people is a little odd to me. Most bosozuku were 16 - 20 year olds, but you can't even get a car licence until you are 20 in Japan. If anything they're an older age group now. Some Bosozuku did have cars, but this was rare and their leaders drove them iligially some how.

That's the same model that I ride daily, but of course mine doesn't look as clean. 48 years old, just got it to 5000 miles today.

That's beautiful. Is it hard to maintain? Are parts for these old models easily available on the market?

I've only been riding it for about a month and so far all that's gone into it is an oil change (one quart of oil), a chain lube, a new fuel cock, a kick start lever, and new bulbs because the battery fell out while I was riding and it blew every single light on the bike. I'm pretty sure the tires are original and they need to be changed badly. Somehow they still hold air though. There seem to be a lot of parts available but they most all ship from SE Asia.

Most of the trouble on the bike has come from the muffler, which is from a Yamaha YS-80. It's always been on this bike though and I don't know where the original muffler went.
