All AKB sub groups and related *48 groups welcome.

HKT48 debut single sold a quarter million in the first week. AKB48's 31st single, the summer & voting one for this year, will be released on 22nd of May.

Sousenkyo has been announced. There's new, controversial rules: girls can opt out of it, and girls who have been in *48 for 4 years or more can choose to participate. Cindy and Noro are in, Ono has announced she won't go for it.

Takamina's single is out next week, and Kuumin's farewell PB will be published next month.

Will Acchan come wreck the election? How will Takamina's solo single fare? Who will be the Kaotan or Tomu of this year's election?

Yeah. Not surprised honestly, Nogizaka doesn't have a force anywhere near comparable to Sasshi wota behind it, and no theater shows, no 48 in the name... when you think about it like that, Nogizaka would be a serious success if they could live up to any 48 group.

The drop in growth percentage was pretty big though, here's the first day sales up %:

They didn't do bad certainly and the girls were great, but I think there's a reason for why their sales growth has decreased in this single, and that'd be the management making many bad decisions for some months now. The 2nd principal stage is one of the very few things they've done right lately.

Definitely.

For that though, they have to give up certain things. If the senbatsu and hachifukujin choices were more fair and things like popularity or effort had effect there, surely they'd already sell a lot more.

Right now they're gaining some fans but losing others at the same time, because people get frustrated with how they can't have any effect on how their oshi gets treated.

Jokes aside, I think it's more socially acceptable for others to admire female beauty over there (many females enjoy gravure & photobooks etc. as well), but still the target audience is mostly male.

Well, I guess that was to be expected. If I recall correctly, Yuka is also supposed to make a TV comeback next month, so I guess she has very little time to waste on a stupid popularity contest these days. Not to mention that her interest in AKB has definitely waned, her last months within the group speak for themselves.

Erepyon too has a solo career to take care of right now, and a pretty lively one at that.

I was more surprised to read Yonechan's response on Twitter, myself. Even though she declined, it still shows that the invitation was extended to all the graduated members, regardless of whether they left the group on good or bad terms.

Also, I suppose Nontii and Cindy accepted mostly for old time's sake. After all, they're still in touch with many girls from Team K and B respectively.

As I see it, there's 3 possibilities in terms of single sales:
Null hypothesis; those who vote vote as much as they did previously, just now they get handshakes on top. There may be a shift in edition proportions, but as many singles are sold.
Alternative hypothesis 1; "Oh, I get handshakes and a voting ticket with a theater edition! Now I can buy less singles and save money!" Single sales decrease as a result.
Alternative hypothesis 2; "Oh, I get handshakes and a voting ticket with a theater edition! Now I'll splurge on my oshi, since it's totally worth the 1000 yen/vote and handhake." Single sales actually increase.

In my country we have over 20% taxes for music (don't remember exactly how much since it was raised recently), and the limit is around 20 € (25 $), which includes both goods price and shipping. The high rate is just because it's a Nordic welfare state, I suppose, and I'm quite used to that.

The low limit is funny, though. My country has an autonomous island that is not in the EU taxation zone and has funny exemptions for a lot of stuff really. Some companies have been exploiting this situation to sell for example games around 10 € cheaper (shipping them from the island, where they are not taxed, to mainland for customers). Of course, the way politicians solve this kind of tax evasion is not by instituting lower limits or dissolving exemptions for this island, but by lowering it for any and all non-EU shipments... which really sucks.

Sure, it's got moe, but it isn't centered only on how cute the girls are. And sure, it could have more action, but the action it has is enough.

It feels like something that would fit perfectly in the Macross history. I can even say I like it more than Frontier.

It wasn't more successful because it didn't cater to anybody specifically. Not even to AKB fans. It had a bit of everything good in every episode. The characters didn't have only one dimension. The animation was not the best ever, but it wasn't reproachable either. The direction, well, it was motherfucking Shoji Kawamori, what did you expect?

It's got a serious background and an overall lighthearted execution. What's there not to like?

It wasn't a worthless role. Again, it's a Speedwagon thing. A Kuririn thing. That friend of the MC that isn't nearly as good at what they do (in this case, fighting), but that still provides moral support, a few chuckles or a reason to fight. A loyal friend. Sancho Panza. Nacchu's character complemented Acchan's perfectly.

Miichan's, on the other hand, didn't do anything for anyone. It wasn't funny, and she didn't support or stood by anyone. The couple of episodes that featured her were about her focusing in her own conflicts. They didn't tie in with the rest of the show, and could've been skipped without affecting the plot much, if at all.

Nacchu's character, on the other hand, was of vital importance. She not only was loyal to Acchan, but she gave her a reason to fight and, with time, united all the people who Acchan beat to stand up against Rappappa. She made the show.

All right, looking back at AKB-related productions in film, animu and TV...

I watched Suicide Song not long ago, and the writing made me cringe and laugh alternatively; it made One Missed Call (which Aki-P penned) look a lot better.

I watched the first two seasons of Majisuka (haven't got to S3), and I thought S1 was more consistent and coherent as a story.

And then 0048. It could've been a success but Okada had to work within limitations, thus she found herself cramming up the whole second season with just about anything, that in the process there are mistakes here and there, enough to make purists mad.

So in a nutshell,
0048 > MG1 > Suicide Song > MG2 > MG3

And I thought it fucking hilarious that Aki-P praises Mari Okada so much, probably she's better than him.
