in some ways, i sometimes feel like that some part of the vocaloid fanbase are no different than, say, the mlp fanbase. we have all sorts of fans involved, but just condemning things because of the fans makes no sense, especially since Vocaloid has been largely community-driven. who's to say that you cant like something because of the impressions from others? They would have to make judgment on another level rather than relying on the fans because of how diverse and outlandish some people might be in the vocaloid fanbase. it has to be more like "I'm not particularly fond of vocaloid because of how they sound like and [insert rational explaination/reason here]. I dont have anything against them, but it's just not my cup of tea."

the idea of just completely isolating yourself from other vocaloid fans, though...it would make sense if you were under the impression that majority of the vocaloid fans were rather distraughtful. The fan-base won't change that.

It's probably part of the reason why I don't like it when people ask "why should I like it?" or "what's so good about it?", and when fans try to explain it, they sound like they are trying to sell it to strangers. Then again, everyone who loves them probably has his/her history with them, has those certain songs which touched them deeply, and if you tell them(strangers) to find their own favorite songs to understand it, they might come off as elitist jerks(like me in the first paragraph).

As for the fan-base, the comments on Youtube are probably no different than video games fans, pony fans, or any other fans. In this regard I prefer Nico over Youtube, because Nico comments feel more transient, you only see them for a few moments scrolling across the video and probably that's why there's little room to start flame wars. They probably realize this too, that's why most Nico comments only amount to "sugee", "kakkoi" and "kono kyoku daisuki".

tl;dr: It's a special thing for everyone; every fan-base has bad apples; Nico is better because less time/space for arguing

Just sharing an opinion, feel free to ignore it.

I don't hate the English fandom I just think they too entitled.

They expect for English VOCALOID to be included in things even though almost nobody from those regions use the software to create music (And if they do it's not very good)

The Japanese fandom exploded they day Miku came out (And people were using VOCALOID way before that too) while most English people see it as a cute fad and many have admitted they won't like it in a few years.

I still cringe remembering when the people on VO tried to get Lady Gaga to be a VOCALOID to promote the software (Instead of promoting it by using the software)

I'm still wondering how singers who gave their voices to vocaloids feel about them. Isn't it creating competition against themselves? Are they confident in their own fan-base? It's likely that vocaloids fuel a different fan-base from real singers, but from their perspective it probably doesn't sound like a very good idea.(unless there are big royalties for each sale, which I doubt, but who knows)
Then there's the thing that, if someone voices a successful vocaloid, they might become immortal in some way, someone might like that idea.

i feel the same way from the first thing you said, too. However, since it made me so happy to find out about vocaloid, maybe others might be happy from finding out about vocaloid too? It's just wishful thinking, I suppose. Nevertheless, i still try to keep Vocaloid on a low profile.

i dont disagree, though, on the thought that it's important that it's everyone to themselves as to finding out what they like and don't like. having your own opinion and stance on things is good. When I talk to other people about vocaloid, i try to do so when it's appropriate. For example, my uncle's a musician and he's very open minded about what's been happening out there in the world of music. he was intrigued about the idea of vocaloid when I explained it to him. However, it's just so hard to explaining about vocaloid without having to give away a "weeaboo" vibe due to how connected Vocaloid is to japan now.

It's crazy short. They have many songs though, but much of them don't stand out, and I feel like I'm just grinding them to see just another mediocre song. I tried out that GUMI PSP game. It's bad. This is really the exact vocaloid product you'd be afraid of since it feels like it was really made just to cash in on its popularity. The whole game feels like a bad PS1 era game, right down to the horrible menus and the constant long load times, even after using the install data. The songlist isn't bad, but as other people said it doesn't matter since all the stages are so short. There's no autosave option either, with the only way to save being in the "Other" section of the main menu for some reason. I honestly see little reason to play this game with all its problems.

I think the developers wanted to punish Diva players too with the way arrows work.

Internet Co made a bad decision using a newcomer company to make this game.

This game might be more popular if they added in Gakupo at least (If they added in the other Internet loids they would have to pay royalties) but no this whole game is about the most overhyped non Miku VOCALOID.

The load times didn't feel much different from PD.(ISO) The model didn't look bad either. The songs are short, but PD songs were cut too(not as badly, but still). The rhythm patterns are a hit or miss.
The one thing that this game is better at is performance. PD had some PVs with really bad FPS drops, killing the experience. Then again, PD PVs were flashier(even if I didn't like most of them), compared to the ones in this game.(which feel bland) Not sure if it's worth it, but it's a rhythm game after all.(so it probably is)

I think I was 20 when I discovered it.
It was around the end of 2008, when they started lifting the limits in Ai Sp@ce. I was looking for a guide(since I didn't know shit in Japanese) and found a group on the Crunchyroll forums. On the right side of the profile page, there was a small flash music player, which played 3 songs(for me at least) which were Love is War, Melt, and World is Mine. I looked up Love is War on Youtube, found the 3DPV and it got me interested so I looked up who this girl is.
I found it amazing how good she sounds while being synthesized.

Now, here I am with ~600GB of Nico videos(of which 90% are vocaloid), several figures on the shelf, few CDs, and no end in sight.

There was this one time, I was chilling in-game, and the big screen started showing a video, with random Miku pictures and 金の聖夜霜雪に朽ちて playing in the background. I searched for months without success, eventually giving up. Then, when going through the Weekly rankings, I came across "that" song. That feel when "holy shit this is it, I finally found it!"

They botched the part where Miku communicates with the audience right before performing Po-PiPo. You can tell she was saying "ya-ho~" but nothing could be heard. Directly after, they accidentally piped in the metronome only the performers are supposed to hear. I always wondered what they did to keep everyone in time.
