Does anyone know where I can get the music patch for all the arcs and get voices installed?

Well I can read french, so there's that solution for me.

As far as I know, the french version is pretty good and lots of love were put into it. The translator took some liberties to make it sound more natural, though. If your french is flawless, you should try that version and see if it's as good as they say.

The Mangagamer version is passable.

About the patches... I think the voices are annoying. They make everything even slower than it was originally. Some scenes are meant to be read quickly, which is impossible if you are using the voice patch.

Also, you should look for the SOUND patch too. It replaces Mangagamer's repetitive sounds, annoying cicadas, etc (I'm not sure if this happens in the french version) with the original ones.

Do you know if the Sound patch would work on the french version or if the French has the same annoying repetitive sound.

And do you know what the Music patch changes?

She is around 11 years old.

>My sister is 10 and I can already see the buds
Your sister isn't a Japanese girl born in the 70's who lives in a village. Children were different back then, especially in Asia.

If Ryukishi's sprites mean anything, Satoko is an early bloomer. If they don't mean shit, Satoko is as flat as a board.

>Do you know if the Sound patch would work on the french version
Probably not. It was made for the Mangagamer version, I guess.

>or if the French has the same annoying repetitive sound
I compared this video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9EDpvgvSYA

with this one:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcPhS7SjL4U

The cicada sounds are different (the french version has the good one), but I'm not sure about the other sounds.

I'm not sure about the music either. You should find videos of the beggining of Onikakushi-hen in French (while Keiichi meets Rena and Mion in his way to school, for example) and compare it with the same scene in the English version.

If the music is the same horrible shit in both of them, that would be bad. I'm not sure if music and sound patches for the French version exist. I haven't really looked for them, though.

Good luck.

Don't call her a freak. She's a good girl.

Here's Hanyuu's description of the original Rika by the way: "Other than having a poor relationship with her mother, Rika was a pretty normal young girl back then. Her personality was just like Satoko's; an energetic young girl who loved running about the wild mountains and pulling pranks."

So her original personality presumably was different from the moe persona she adopts in front of others if it was like that of Satoko.

Pbsaffran. I met him once or twice. Pretty cool guy, and one of us. He gave me the vibes of /jp/, but in a good way: integrated in society but doing what he loves, and what he loves is Japanese stuff.

Some students gave him a copy of the first Higurashi when it came out, and he fell in love with the series. He did the translation afterwards, something that took him several years, and that's only at the end that he thought about selling it.

He did it for the beauty of it, and did it so masterfully it was licensed. He's kind of a hero. I wish there was more selfless competent translators out there.

Tecnhically, Satoko is 10 and turns 11 a few days after the festival.
Rika is already 11 and would turn 12 in August 1983. She's underdevelopped because of stuffs that would spoil the storyline.
Mion and Keiichi are both 14, Rena is 13. (yeah, I know...)

I read the first 8 novels and somehow I don't recall it saying she was underdeveloped or giving a reason why she might be...

1st game, chapter 1: Mion has to prepare for exams but doesn't want to get into any good highschool anyway -> she's in 3rd grade of junior high. By japanese law, that means she's either 14 or 15.
Hints at the end of that chapter:
_Keiichi is one class below Mion -> 2nd year of junior high (either 13 or 14)
_Keiichi and Rena are in the same grade
_Keiichi already got his birthday in April and is older than Rena
_Keiichi has the same age as Mion but she will be ahead of him soon enough.
Keiichi and Mion have to be 14 to meet these conditions, which means Rena must be 13.
If we assume Ryûkishi07 got it somehow wrong, then these 3 characters are all 3 years older.
It's highly unlikely, though - classes seem relatively easygoing, they're only complaining about the english vocabulary list which are kind of a novelty in junior high but quite laughable compared to classical japanese or maths in high school.

As for Rika being underdeveloped, her mother says something to that extent in the last game, during the puzzle chapter. There's also a scene where the girls talk about "days marked in red on the calendar" (I think Satoko too?) and Rika mentions that her calenders don't sport these kind of days yet.

I guess they aged the characters on PS2 to make it a tiny bit more realistic, or to avoid problems with the general audience.
