Some kid (actually like 11) was making a Touhou fangame in Game Maker with all the sprites drawn in MS Paint. It was cute but I think I stalked him too hard and he deleted his YouTube account ;_;

My idea wasn't a danmaku game. I was thinking a baby metroidvania, you play as Okuu and start in the depths of the hell of blazing fires, working your way up and collecting her powers on your mission to reach the surface and ignite it.

You encounter SA's bosses in reverse order.

I was thinking that right when you reach the surface is when Reimu starts her descent down, in the events of Subterranean Animisn. Thus it's a Metroid - esque escape chase/run all the way back down to hell, with Reimu just one or two screens behind you at the most. (she doesn't know you're so close, and is descending and walloping bosses as she normally does).

When you reach hell/the starting room, she finally catches up, you have the big fight... But if you manage to "kill" her she bombs, takes you out (and maybe complains about not capturing that spell card.)

(Maybe there'd be a bonus area where you have to actually go to the surface and see Koishi. Not sure how to work that in though.)

At this point I'm thinking while you're gonna encounter all of the cast of SA... Not everyone is getting a full blown sprite set and boss fight. Too much work. It may be a different gimmick or they straight up might not be violent towards you.

once you have something going, you could also post it in the oc thread.

Try adding some of the SA playable characters as bosses too. If Reimu is the final one, make Marisa a boss in the middle or something.
