I finished Sisters Ultra. I hadn't played the previous version so I don't know first hand what they changed, but it's a rather well animated work. It feels more like an interactive movie than anything, although it's linear.

Story-wise I wasn't expecting much, but the twist and conclusion really felt rushed or something. The TV news reports and phone calls also gave much of the feeling of mystery away, although if there was one thing positive about the story is that it kind of makes you think about the values of life and death.

It was really lewd though so if you are looking into that and like Chika this will be great. Chika has the most scenes there. I liked Akiko's and Haruka's designs more, so that was a tad disappointing for me.

Now I guess I'll change rhythms a bit and start Astraythem on the side. What's the general purpose of this check anyways? Anti-stupid measures or something?

Still reading Itazurakko. Upcoming exams and family's winter holidays have kept sure that I haven't really been able to play in privacy, otherwise I would have finished this a long time ago. I can really agree with EGS' rather low score and bug complaints. After enabling full screen I haven't been able to turn it off (even from the launcher) and the game crashes when trying to alt + tab out in addition to other performance problems I mentioned earlier, though I'm personally enjoying it simply because the twins are so damn adorable.

Good style, OST and general premise that are spoiled by many flaws. The Russian Roulette gimmick is nice, but only affects the very first route you play, and after that, it's the usual "Choose your route" stuff. The characters are a mixed bag, with some of them simply impossible to bear even though you have to follow them to get an ending. The plot also gets much less exciting when you realize that people come back from the dead left and right. If you're going to build your story on 命かけたギャンブル, what's the point if no one ever dies?

It's a shitty normalfag fetish included as fap fodder and not a indispensable plot device. It's also the norm for the creator to adapt to the preferences of the consumer. That's how business is made.

Fortunately, the games nowadays are more clearly split between vanilla and ones explicitly made for NTR fetishists. The only exception are games with emphasis on gameplay which sell regardless of the content.

Naori being kept out of the picture for so long is definitely suspicious; there's some big reveal related to him coming up, I suspect.

My theory before the full game even came out was that Satsuki faked her death in order to escape the village and whatever ominous fate was in store for her, and is now living as Fuyumi in Tokyo, but each new piece of information about the past seems to point to there having been - and seriously, don't read this if you'd rather finish the game and be surprised, because I'm pretty sure I got it right - twins - Satsuki, and Ayako, the miko - who is also the killer. Music was decent too.
Pacing though, was a bit off. Too many SoL scenes between all the fights. The story was kinda hammered in at the end. There was a bit of a mystery about everything going on with a lot of subtle hints, but everything was explained away in a silly way with parallel worlds.
Characters were largely forgettable. Most impressionable ones I found were a dead guy and the last boss.
I should be feeling a bit annoyed at the forced happy ending, but I'm ultimately feeling really crap about what happened to Lisette.

We are talking about a secretive organisation after all, piling up a few more wouldn't hurt. Looking at the recollection menu, this VN suffers from the too many heroines problem, too loose from plot. I can see your interpretation of that, but I actually really disagree. I feel like the entire story is based around existentialist views, since they even reference Kafka at a few points, and the whole story seems to want to present the idea of, is a life lived in a dream worth living. I assume in every route he picks except Maia's his ultimate answer is no, but that's merely a point of view. Most all character development is done in dream areas, yet it's not like you can just sweep it away and say "it was a dream so it's not important." Even if ultimately he chooses to live with them in reality, the dream experience is still a deep part of his own existence, and incredibly important. So if in the end choosing to pick a life in a dream, isn't necessarily any worse than picking the choice of reality. At least that's the way I've been interpreting it, though particularly Alice's true route may shed some more light on the mystery of the setting.

>> No.10601030

>>10600960
>So if in the end choosing to pick a life in a dream, isn't necessarily any worse than picking the choice of reality.
Escape from harsh reality is never depicted in a positive light in these kind of stories. In Tooru's case it means giving up on life and loosing to his feelings of regret so that he can have fun with his dead imouto in his head. Not being able to overcome his weakness means a dead end in terms of character development and is one of the most classic bad end scenarios.
Not much room for different interpretation, really.

>> No.10601049

I know that when considering the context, Maia not having a proper route makes perfect sense because she's long dead but it's just a huge tease to have arguably the best girl in the story and yet no route for her.

To be fair, I'm not sure if even a FD can fix things in that area. They'd basically need to retcon the setting for Maia to go anywhere.

Again I can see your point, but the strength or weakness, whichever way you'd want to view it, of this kind of setting that uses the ideas of dream and reality, is it is essentially bottomless. This could be seen in our own reality even, as ultimately there is no proof that you aren't merely dreaming right now, but again that argument is bottomless and can never end, so is pointless to get into.

But moving to the setting of the story then, from chapter 5 onwards, they can't tell if they are in a dream or reality anymore. Even Tooru's reality checks fails, which can raise the question, has he ever been in reality even once through the entire setting of the story? Again I'm talking from the perspective of not having seen Alice's route so I know there could be new evidence for different views, but again because of the nature of the story it seems as if you can't ever really say for sure that this route is something he is now with forever. They talk about the setting in terms of a play many times, with the characters as mere actors, and everything being done for the sake of the unseen audience, I interpreted that as in a way breaking the fourth wall, where the reader is the unseen audience. Every time you hit the button to begin, you've reset the world and are forcing them through hardships again, taking away what Tooru has gained, and putting him back to a state where he has nothing but regret. Even if Alice's route explains this better however, you could still look at it as everything done is merely again them fulfilling their roles of actors, as if characters in a dream, going through their motions without really understanding. The only true end is when you choose to not hit start another time, and have left Tooru in that last route. Which is why I was saving Maia for last.

>> No.10601138

>>10601070
It's not specifically the question of choosing dream or reality that makes it a bad end. It's him choosing Maia, that's basically admitting defeat and the game obviously presents it as such. And yeah, you should just finish Alice's route because it's about waking up.

>> No.10601164

>>10601138
Well until I read it myself I can't say anything about either of their routes to possibly see it in any kind of different light than what you're presenting. Though I still plan to do Saki before Alice or Maia, so it'll be awhile before I'm actually done, as I read rather slowly.

I'm conflicted, I don't know if to feel sorry for the man or what. He really was trying to move stuff for overseas sales and now he's like fuck it. But then his outburst is just hilarious. Then again to be honest I don't really know the modus operandi of the torrents at nyaa.

They will translate the game most likely anyway, so he can count on at least another 4k copies.

So they filed a takedown notice for one of their games, and said site admin told him in no uncertain terms that they don't have to comply because they're Canadians, and he can go fuck himself. He then goes on to use a bunch of Canadian stereotypes to express his frustration. It's not exactly professional, but I don't think it's anything actually serious. Considering he visits both Canada and the US on a fairly regular basis, and founded a company specifically to work in those markets, I seriously doubt his statements have any broader connotation than just being angry at a specific individual.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but to the best of my knowledge animesharing is hosted in Canada? It's hard to find info and they're usually behind cloudflare, but signs point to them being there.

It's pretty much the easy/worthless answer to why didn't it sell? Rather than looking at the real reasons like lack of support, wrong target market, bad game, etc.

As for eroge, in general when I do buy them I 'pirate' them anyway, because I only get them shipped in batches quarterly and prefer to leave them sealed unless the special edition has something I really want. I wouldn't be surprised if a sizable portion of fans did that unless they are part of the buy 3 (one to use, one to save, one to support / as backup) mentality.

Out of the blue, Prima Stella and Erect come to mind as examples of forced H scenes.

Generally it bothers me on non-nukige because I'd rather stay 100% pure until the routes start. If it's a character I like, I feel bad for betraying that character. If I don't care about the character, I find it annoying that I'm forced to do such lewd things with that character.

It can lead to route guilt, and Erect is a pretty good example of that.
