So I kind of want to learn Japanese. What's the best way to go about it /jp/?

fuck I hate that question. any explanation I give to the people who 'want to learn' just gets a blank expression and the feeling that merely telling people how to do things is just hopeless.

Go to /int/ and read the sticky.

There are no shortcuts. Language is a physical skill, and the only way you can get better at physical skills is practice. You can learn Japanese, or any other language, even if you're a stupid high school dropout.

how i did it:

learn kana
then learn basic grammar, i used tae kim and random parts of textbooks - piratebay has a compilation
learn the most common kanji, I used kanjidamage anki deck (1700~ kanji)
then learn a bunch of vocab, i'm using a core 6000 anki deck

im only up to that, so I dunno after that

in terms of importance then

hiragana/katakana
because it'll introduce you to the way they speak

the sound they make instead of l/r
because that's important

grammar, particularly verb conjugation
because it's 50% of the language

finally volcab and kanji
if you did everything else you should be able to progress ata stable linear fashion.

when learning kanji don't learn every possible reading either learn the most used verb or the most used onyomi

>>10574847

But now Japan is very short so that people cant buy new cars nevertheless they want it.

Step 1. Learn Hiragana/Katakana
Step 2. Learn Kanji
Step 3. Learn words.
Step 4. Move to Japan
(Step 2 and 3 are interchangeable depending on how you want to do it)
You should do Hira/Kata first, then after that, do whatever the fuck

Buy the book Genki, an integrated course in elementary japanese.
It's the best book to date. Also download the primslur japanese CD.
To memorize hiragana and katakana download kana grinder.
And then after that it's just practice. I'd recommend going to classes, you'll get critique and if there's things that you don't understand you can ask someone who knows.

This is coming from someone who actually became fluent in japanese in 4 years:
-Take a proper japanese course in college. Ignore those saying to just study through books, the internet etc, I'm yet to see someone who even managed to pass JLPT1 with this method, their japanese always have huge flaws.
- While taking the course watch a crapload of animu everyday, this will greatly improve your vocabulary and help with sentence structure etc.
- After you learn a few hundred kanji start playing simple rpgs from around ps1 era. Only look up unknown kanjis after you've seen it many times, otherwise you'll get overwhelmed.

That's it, just keep increasing difficulty over time and you'll be fluent very soon.

If you do nothing else, shadow shadow shadow. Try and copy what the people on the anime/podcast/news are saying speed and everything. Getting a sense of cadence and not sounding like a round eye is insanely important. Plus it'll skyrocket your listening comprehension because it forces you to pay attention. You'll suck balls at first, but after a few weeks you'll be able to keep at a natural pace even if you only understand conceptually one word in ten.
