Then maybe Dominant World, ピアノのための東方小品集 Op.4, Magico, both DDBY releases, つきかげクオリア, Dancehall, Luath maidin, The Lounge Map 1 - morning coffee set, tutti sound, both 紅い流星 releases which were really good, and some other stuff. I didn't really like O-life's release as much as I would have though.

I really liked this album.

Also noteworthy I thought were JSY, and pretty much everything >>10514923 listed.

Yeah, I think they're practically unheard of sadly, since they're not a big name circle or doing arrangements of 2hu or other popular stuff to garner any interest. Shame, it's a really solid release, and I found all the songs to be really good except for that one instrumental, Kali I think. My favorite has got to be the last track, since I'm a sucker for long progressive rock songs.

Really, I don't think I've ever heard such delicious and awesome riffs ever since Demetori started sucking and xi-on became stale. It really was a pleasant surprise to hear a progressive rock (progressive anime song?) doujin album that isn't some shitty Symphony X knock-off. If it weren't for JSY, this Comiket would've been a total dud in terms of rock releases.

Holy shit, I listened to you anons about JSY and wow that was pretty fucking sweet.

Pleasantly surprised, I hope this circle does more work in the future, particularly those instrumental prog metal songs.

Stebbins is my favorite part of the Eurobeat albums. He gets a lot of /jp/ hate, but I like his vocals, and it's seldom enough to find a male touhou album vocalist, let alone one that sings in good English. He's very memorable and I like him, so there!

Favourite releases were:

[Amazing Records] DJ Amane - My Slammin' Sounds. This was basically DJ Shimamura 2.0 (minus all the godlike Breakbeats)
[A-ONE] TOHO EUROBEAT VOL.7 MOUNTAIN OF FAITH. I only listen to these for T. Stebbins.
[Japanese With Force] ASGARD. Really nice Hardcore album.
[Massive New Krew] Future Massive Androidz. Best Hardstyle release.
[Minamotrance] Conclusion Octa. Decent UK Hardcore.
[S2TB Recordings] J-RAVE Nation. Actual Breakbeat Hardcore synths on this one, could do with some better Drum programming though to make it sound proper old school.
[Sound.AVE] Accumulation. Decent Drum & Bass album.
[Shibayan] マジコカタストロフィ. The instrumentals were great (and that Noisia re-arrange, nice but would have preferred an arrangement of a Vision release rather than Division).
[HARDCORE TANO C] SPEED BALL GT. 2nd best Hardstyle album.
[HARDCORE TANO C] RADIANCE. Decent UK Hardcore stuff.

Things which were shitty:
[Diverse System] AD Drum 'n' Bass. More like AD Drumstep...damn shame, was expecting big things.
[Mob Squad Black Label] J-CORE MEGAMIX. Would have been fine without the Brostep.
[UOM Records] ShandyBass. Brostep = nope.

You how how people think Skrillex, Excision, Datsik, Nero and Borgore are Dubstep? They ain't, they are brostep; all drop and no substance. Closer to electro-house than to UKG like Dubstep actually is. Dubstep is producers like Digital Mystikz, Silkie, Goth-Trad, Shackelton (when he was on Skull Disco anyway), Kromestar, Kryptic Minds and Leofah; deep basslines with scattered drum beats with a rhythm kind of like old UKG tracks until it became it's own thing.

Best way to simplify it, US producers will most likely be Brostep, UK producers will most like be Dubstep (this is a broad and sweeping statement which casually ignores that UK producers invented brostep, but generally speaking still true).

And of course, since Japan copies everything America does at some point the doujin producers have started making Brostep as well now, which is a shame.

Most certainly. I should say the term brostep is sort of meant to be used disrespectfully, ie a producer won't ever admit they make brostep, they call it Dubstep themselves but it isn't (the term came from how fratbros who play shitty music play this kind of thing all the time).

The production style builds on work primarily by Rusko and Caspa (ie stuff like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwfWSX0FYlI)) which was making the rounds around 2008-ish, it was then adopted the americans and ruined into what it is now. It's loud, obtuse, necessarily in your face and doesn't have any semblance to 2004-6 era Dubstep, hence why it should be classified as it's own genre.

The bassline is relatively simple but produced in a way that it is the most prominent feature of the track, whereas the synths overpower the track in brostep. There's minimal added sounds, the odd drum/stab the keep the rhythm flowing but that's about it. Of course, brostep being where the money is, lots of people prefer to make that. I'd be willing to bet that some of the synths they make is challenging but that doesn't do much to salvage the genre.

I listen to the odd bit of hardcore and speedcore and comparing them to brostep, I wouldn't think you'd like it because it's not fast enough, there's very little drum production on tracks (whereas hardcore and speedcore have very loud and continuous drums all the way through a lot of the time) but if you like then fair enough. You may like ShandyBass though, I hated it personally but it's a hardcore/hardstyle producer's take on brostep, so who knows.

Trap is hip-hop from the deep south. Lately it's been getting more attention with regular DJ's than with rappers though. Honestly, I'm starting to sway a little more away from doujin music like hardcore and speed core and all that, even though I used to listen to it a lot. It just seems like it's becoming kind of stagnant now, and Japanese producers aren't even really all that good at it either. Now I'm sort of getting more into electro house, glitch hop, and trap. Not the rapper kind either, more like the DJ producer kind. I think it also partly has to do with me being less of a shut in recently as well.

Anyways, the original reason why I made that first post was because I sort of see similarities between original dubstep and trap music.

I'm still looking for Japanese glitch-hop and trap producers, there are seldom any at all.

Ah yes, the fabled Trap music. This was one electronic music trend I checked out but didn't really feel like keeping up with specifically. I sort of got the vibe that it was trying to be Juke/Footwork music with more focus on bass production, but I think I just prefer your standard Juke type tracks like these:

I mainly listening to Breakbeat Hardcore, Jungle and Drum & Bass, so I'm a big fan of faster paced music and Trap isn't really that for me. I kind of find it hard to understand why it's hailed as the new Dubstep, the bass isn't nearly as key in the tracks I've heard but I've not heard much.

I also quite an old school instrumental Grime vibe from Trap at times, stuff like this was being made around 2002-ish as another off shoot of UKG and I'd argue it has solid bass on them:

Now Grime is a genre which is going through a revival phase and is something I am somewhat keeping up with. They don't produce such stripped out instrumentals like the above these days apart from the odd producer (like Spooky or Royal-T) but it's still decent stuff.

But all three of those tracks were instrumental in bring Dubstep to the mainstream. Before it was solely an underground thing being played at Forward and DMZ mainly, but then Mary Anne Hobbs got involved with the scene and these three tracks received mad radio play. it was good because a lot of good quality Dubstep came out afterwards since it became the 'in thing' the make, but then surely enough the "my bass is more distorted than yours" wars started and brostep happened shortly after.

Which is a shame, really. Of course, this is the natural order of things as they get popular; the whole big drop, distorted base and excessive wubbing is one reason I dislike brostep. I think before these two the Juke and Footwork scene was only big in Chicago. From the comps just check out the related artist's stuff. DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad are probably the big ones, DJ Diamond, DJ Roc and Traxman both have LPs on Planet Mu. Chrissy Murderbot's latest LP (also on Planet Mu) had some Juke on it, which was good but I was annoyed since he normally makes some quality Jungle. Planet Mu in recent years has pushed this music hard so they have a fair amount of EPs full of it, I don't know the genre well enough to know what other labels to check out.
