OK, let's say you finally did it and constructed a portal into Gensokyo out of dirty socks and sacrificial semen. Supposing that you manage to get to the other side in one piece, realistically which of the major or minor Touhou characters (discounting the unnamed ones) would you consider it the safest to get into a relationship/co-living with? Or would you stay away from the named characters in hopes of preserving your life?

To make it easier, let's say you're allowed as much prep time as you need.

Akyuu would be the one who has the least amount of encounters with youkai, Keine has that time of the month which might be dangerous, and Kosuzu deals in demonic books.

This sounds reasonable.

SDM, Myouren Temple, and Moriya Shrine would probably take decent care of guests as long as you could get there and agreed to live the proper lifestyle as part of that group. Eientei and Chireiden would probably be less generous past a short-term few days

Actually, where is the Myouren Temple, relative to the village? Does anybody know?

First, I'd make my way to the human village. This is crucial, as people from the village have protection from the youkai unlike people from the outside world.

Since they enjoy having humans from outside, I'm sure they would accommodate me with food and lodging for a while in exchange for tales of the outside world.

With that taken care of, I'd visit both shrines and the temple a lot, trying to acquaint myself with all the youkai I meet there.

Then bum around Gensokyo until I find a faction that takes me in.

If none of the major players seem interested, just find something to do in the village. They get outside humans there from time to time, so it's not like there's no precedent.

This is a smokescreen. Gensokyo is built around the idea that the only one with the right to speak are those with power. That's basically what is spell card duels.

You can live a peaceful life as an human, that is, works all your life in plantations or what not and die old. Or you can live an interesting life as something more than human. >Become Miko's disciple
I suggest you have a read of SoPM.

>Her personality is surprisingly casual, and she jokes around. But in a direct confrontation, not only does she display no vulnerability, but her opponent feels as if she sees through them completely, and feel awe-inspired.
>I've heard that many humans from the village wish to become her disciples. It's true that one's ordinary life would change utterly if one could acquire the arts of the hermits.
>However, she doesn't appear to think of those disciples as anything more than mere servants, which is quite natural, as in terms of "hermit's disciples", they are just pawns or couriers.
>Therefore, even if you wish to gain superhuman powers as well, it seems it would be best to avoid becoming her disciple on a whim.

tl;dr: Miko is a tyrant

Well, it's not like Marisa's a bad person. She would probably take someone on as her apprentice if they said the right things to her...

So, phase one would be to find Marisa, learn what you can from her, and then phase two... Be the hyper-observant person that you (hopefully) are! Steal spells wherever and whenever you can! Don't leave a single stone left unturned, even if that means--dare I say it--going to Yuuka's house!

You're right, which is why you preface it with:
"I'm going to run a tabletop game in a new setting. What would happen if X?"

And that right there is the attitude I usually see on /tg/, which is why I was surprised to see a good Touhou thread there. It's a fantasy setting, if people can discuss 40k lore to hell and back, I don't see why discussing Gensokyo or World of Twelve should be banned. It can't be any less /tg/ related than the Katawa Yandere and Bromont quest threads I see there these days.

>> No.10567688

>>10567671
Because 40k is a traditional game.

Yes, you could try and discuss Gensokyo because of RSO or Flowers, but that would be as dumb as shameless discussing currently airing anime adaptations of light novels (which nobody has ever read).

Then again, your board just doesn't seem to give a shit if people remain on topic, so it's a moot point.

>> No.10567693

>>10567671
Again, depends on the time of day. I've been on there where people will happily discuss whatever you care to name. But that's not surprising, given that there seem to be two broad, approximately equal factions on /tg/, one of which says "/tg/ is for tabletop games and nothing but tabletop games, and especially not things I don't like" and the other of which says "/tg/ is for anything that people who play tabletop games would like to discuss." The latter is a bit of a moot point, though, given that only like 30% of /tg/ actually plays tabletop games anymore.

>> No.10567700

>>10567693
I feel like all the boards were originally categorized as the latter, and only recently began moving towards the former.

>> No.10567707

There was an attempted Touhou quest like two weeks ago. There wasn't any sagebombing or trolling or anything, but the author was complete shit and it was basically terrible in every way.

But that does mean that /tg/ might be amenable to some sort of Touhou quest, especially if the author didn't suck.

ZUN says there's no actual gender bias in Gensokyo's population. The fact that the cast is all female is strictly his preference to draw frilly dresses. Which means that, on average, for every eldritch abomination we see in canon, there's a male counterpart to balance the gender ratio out. We don't even know half the power-players in Gensokyo.

Wait, when did he say this? I don't remember reading this before.

>> No.10567745

>>10567724
I think just "Touhou Quest". It was about a Lunarian invasion of Gensokyo, with actual armies and guns and whatnot, and basically made no sense. We had to create our own 2hu, which took entirely too long, and ultimately ended up being a fire-fairy. Which would be fine, except for the fact that she idolized Cirno and everyone forgot that fairies are immortal. There was also a scene about storming an entrenched Lunarian position, and apparently we killed someone with a knife? I wasn't paying too much attention at that point because it was a real slog to read such dreck.
