I have not been impressed by a VOCALOID song yet. What bothers me most is not the fact that the voices don't sound human, but that the songs I have heard featuring them aren't good. The beats were repetitive and didn't sync with the vocal melodies very well. (If I tap my fingers to the beat or count in my head, the phenomes don't really match up except occasionally at the end of a measure.) I wonder if the emphasis on singing in VOCALOID songs has anything to do with the prevalence of lackluster accompanying music.

I don't think this is unique to vocaloid music.

I think people focus more on the music/melody or the meaning of the lyrics. Perfect sync is not always desired in certain kinds of songs either. For example, in Rolling Girl, I believe it would take away from the tone it sets, the feelings it tries to convey(despair, frustration, etc.)

Then again, I'm not a musician, so my opinion is purely subjective. There are more than a 100 000 songs produced already, so maybe you just need to look further, or maybe you'll just come across a song you like in the future.
