Then give me one good reason why an innocent, law-abiding citizen would have anything to fear. A real reason, not an emotional or "it's the principle of the thing" reason, i.e. not "It's creepy!" or "It violates my privacy!"

Also keep in mind whenever this issue comes up, it's "invasive" for a useful reason, so can your arguments about cameras recording people naked or whatever.

Nothing but my misshapen penis.

However, if it was for a real reason, e.g. terrorists were carrying penis bombs and the police wanted to inspect people to help save innocent lives, then that would be for a real reason and I would be fine with it.

Here I'm working under the assumption they were being honest and trustworthy. In practice that's not always the case, obviously.

In OP's case his dad just wants to use his computer. If OP isn't a paedo, a pirate, or a terrorist, he would just hand his laptop over and not use encryption. Since he is at least one of those things, he won't. He has something to hide, he has something to fear. If he didn't have something to hide, he would have nothing to fear.

The argument people should be going for is, "Yes, if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. However, I have something to hide." At least admit to being a criminal or a weirdo.

>>10511647
I'm not a philosopher or a lawyer, so I don't know. But there is some common ground, e.g. 99.9% of people don't want murders to happen. It's like asking who gets to decide what's "legal" or "illegal". There is always going to be some disagreement, but overall laws are A Good Thing.

Riddit fancy themselves to be super liberal. They oppose every sort of scheme like this, because "Fuck the government! 'govments should serve their ppl not the other way around' - Anonymous from Watchmen".

Law enforcement does have that right if they have a warrant, which is fair enough. If you read in some history book that the police raided a gangster's house and read his (paper) files, you wouldn't bat an eyelid or pay any mind to his privacy, because that's just the intuitive thing that would happen. For some reason people get all tetchy when it comes to electronic data.

I like how we complain about tyranny in a world where people used to getanarm hacked off for bumping into a samurai and a knight could rape whoever he wanted as could any relation of his.

If anybody took a fucking moment to think about it, society is basically as free as it's ever going to get and freedom at the expense of everything else is just ignorance.

But that's objectively wrong. The government micro-manages every aspect of our lives nowadays. Sure, a monarch had supreme power, but you were pretty much left on your own as long as you didn't cause a ruckus.
