I was meaning to ask now though, I do quite want to play around with Caster, but I feel like I'm maybe forcing myself through the harder path on my first time around, though I haven't gone back and picked Saber or Archer to see the differences. Is the game particularly harder with Caster to the point where it hampers the experience for first timers or is it okay to keep going like this? What are the gameplay differences from Saber to Archer to Caster?

Going with Caster first is probably just going to turn you into one of those morons who act like Rock Paper Scissors combat is one of the worst things to ever grace the planet. When you play as her, the game actually expects you to have some experience under your belt and tries to be more difficult. So just stop while you're ahead. Use Saber or Archer instead for your first run through.

Saber is upfront and doesn't exactly need to rely on skills,only really requiring you to make her hits connect, but if you do use her skills they can accommodate for any mistakes you make. Has pretty good growth in her stats.

Archer starts out looking like a weaker Saber at first but as you get his skills and start using them and building him towards them, you'll start noticing that he beats even Saber out in raw damage. Has pretty decent stat growth.

And obviously compared to the other two,Caster is hell. She does nothing better than the other two be it with her skills(Noble Phantasm included),damage or survivability. She will die in 2 and even 1 hit so more often than not your playing needs to be perfect if you want to get anywhere with her. Her growth is naturally the most awkward,uncomforting thing in the game that shows favor towards the worst stats in the game(Luck and Agility) while ignoring the shit she needs being Endurance.

More on topic, my deal with the game comes with it turning into a lot of a guessing game later on. I still like the game though.

Picking Caster on first playthrough is harder, but I wouldn't call it hell. You just need to be a lot more careful and invest some more time into overleveling her.

Before you get any good ways to regenerate her mana, it really feels like you picked the worst servant. But at this stage, enemies still have very simple patterns. Like the bull things in phase 1 and 2, they're predictable to the point where you can easily beat them with your weak basic attacks, and they give really good exp. The birds are also really predictable. And when you have some enemies that you can do the bulk of your grinding on with just basic attacks, you can save your mana for less predictable enemies. One of the great things about Caster is that she has cheap spells and lots of mana, so continue casting spells when you're not sure how the enemy will attack, which guarantees that you won't get hit (assuming the enemy doesn't use an attack skill) This works even better when you get your mana restoration skills, allowing you to use the predictable enemies to restore your mana.

Formal wear also helps a lot. Later in the game, I depended heavily on Shockwave Strike 2 or whatever it was called, which lets your stun enemies on the field and when you engage them, they'll be stunned for their first two attacks. That really helps a lot in defeating new enemies, and by the time you run out of mana, you'll probably have gotten "Reading enemy information" a few times. The formal wears that let you transfer mana to your servant are good too, because you can just buy a whole bunch of mana restoration consumables for yourself and never worry about running out of mana.

Only bad thing about Caster is that if you're not careful, she can easily be killed from full health in a few hits. And I guess you'll also have to retry a few more times when fighting servants, but this never bothered me much. You'll realize it's all worth it when you get to the last few rounds.

Its only a guessing game for those who are just completely ignorant of how it works. What the game wants you to do is memorize the patterns and the types of enemies you're up against. Bee means lots of Break attacks for example and it'll sprinkle around another hint through the menu to show you that. If you're up against Gawain he'll basically telegraph to you that you can get a free hit by defending on his first or third move because he'll use a buff on his second.

I mean sure,sometimes you will get cheesed by Lancer butt fucking you with an Attack instead of a break but the whole game isn't like that. It's a rare occurrence.

I don't quite enjoy how you have to wait for characters to speak what they have to say before the text actually starts scrolling in the box. Is this a shortcoming with the emulator or a design decision? Can anything be done about it besides disabling voiceovers in these sections?

It doesn't really feels like I need to grind more, it just feels like I'm being punished excessively for the randomness nature of the battle.

She always buffs herself on the first turn, which is what's single-handedly killing me. It increases her power to the point where one attack can do upwards to 140 damage, which is pretty much a third of my HP at this point.

Still, there's some things I can deduce since my rating is E. She always buffs herself on the first turn if the attack damage steroid runs out. If Shinji queues up a codecast, it's also always on the first turn and she will always use attack on said turn. She always uses her cannon-fodder skill on the third turn, so even if it's a question mark, it's always going to be a guard for me. Apart from that, she seems to have a fetish for guarding after attacking or breaking, which helps a bit for getting a rhythm going.

I've even experienced her reality marbel which she uses when her HP falls below 1000 and survived. The problem isn't the skills, it's that sometimes she breaks up her trend and two-shots me on a lucky turn.

It's just a little frustrating, but it doesn't feels like I'm not ready for the fight. Though maybe I am, since I'm having to use an Ether shard every turn just to offset her damage.

Are you playing on Easy Mode or Normal? Caster really makes the most of Easy Mode since the only difference is that you get more fountains to recover MP in dungeons, whereas in Normal you simply have no way to recover it outside of limited items for most of the game.

Strength helps, but it isn't a main priority. Just like what was mentioned earlier in the thread agility and luck are the worst stats and just happen to be other two stats Caster has decent growth in. It isn't that big of an issue that you have point into them since it's early in the game, but you should put some towards endurance in my honest opinion.

I feel like I should apologize for being a bit ambiguous, I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I like adversities like this, it's just that some of it is bumming me out. I still like Caster so far, though!

Also, I don't think difficulty would've made a difference so far because the dungeons haven't posed a challenge so far. Though it may change as the game goes on, I suppose.

It's okay though, I have this bitch on the leash now. I saved my last spell for her 100 HP pool so she doesn't two-shots me on that range again.

You need to be higher level than normal. It is advisable to grind a handful of levels longer than you would normally see fit. Strength is important but no higher than C. If you hate the guessing game, you should pump defense. Leave agility alone until you have enough spells to cast.

Much easier. Saber can get through with just physical attack and skill spam, and she doesn't need MP to grind so it's easier to be higher leveled (if you're on Normal Mode). Caster simply can't grind on Normal until late in the game.

I played her as last NG+ and I must say I felt much safer with Saber and Archer. It's not just their better stats and skills including NPs that don't suck balls. Tamamo acts very cute. She does become serious sometimes but her personality and history doesn't really give off an air of reliability in battle or as a partner. She certainly isn't gung-ho inspirational and shits confidence like Nero. She doesn't act reassuringly smug and radiate stoic badassery like Emiya either. You just feel like you're in good hands with those two. You probably have to play through them all to understand.

tl;dr: Tamamo Caster ver. is really only girlfriend/wife material, not serious fighter stuff.

Equip the exorcist's blade on your MC. It gives you a spell that stuns the enemy if they use a skill on the same turn.

Rider always buffs on the first turn each round, so use the stun skill as your first move every round.

Now Rider starts stunned and can never buff her attack.

If you drop all your skill points into magic then Caster should be doing about 400 damage per spell. Coupled with the skill that restores MP when you Break and use should have just enough MP to take Rider out before her noble phantasm.

If you can't quite reach that, then just have your MC spam healing items before and after that attack.

I guess it's true that it's not easy to have a lot of confidence in Caster, but unlike the others, she made me have a lot of confidence in myself. The way she trusts me completely, always praises me, and talks about how awesome I am for just leveling up once, all that made me want to be an awesome master for her. Additionally, as I started winning battles with her, I started to really like the idea that I was winning against stronger classes one by one with a servant from what is supposed to be the weakest class. With Archer and Saber, you know that they're really strong and your success is almost exclusively thanks to them. If anything, you've been holding them back for the first few rounds due to your limited power. It's not very cool when your servant directly tells you you're too weak for them.

Berserkers a fuckin' pansy in comparison. Loads of waits, and because of it he's very easy to read. Lancer does something basically every turn and with Caster that can easily cost you the entire match.

That's fine. Both entitled to our opinions. Berserker is much more of a tank than Lancer and when he starts frequently using FB aphotic cave has trouble mitigating the damage enough unlike Lancer's basic moves which can be simply stunned by the right spell. You have to waste turns defending and healing just to stay alive so those waits don't really help much. Rani also casts more buffs frequently.
